I don't think a "stock" tach had a power lead. One wire from coil neg. side, wire from dash light circuit and a ground . Pretty sure that's it. The repop tach needs a power lead.

Yes, Im using all stock items.
I got the negative coil and ground nailed. Its the third wire for power with the purple strip. That line has a male and female splice plug to tap power off something. I used my horn relay since it was close and the right size plug. Just wonder if anyone has a stock original set-up for reference?

Thanks Leo for thoughts and comments.

Not in front of it now but I believe the shop manual (in the back, accessories section) details the wiring connections.

Don't know what factory was.

Do know I wouldn't use horn power that's hot 24/7.

Wiper power cuts on and off with the ignition switch.

Really don't have many switched hot wires under the hood to choose from

Switched power on my 68 went to the wiper motor.

I bought a factory tach harness to replace what came with mine. It had the terminal rings/plugs to tie into the factory connections and proper colors. No need to cut into anything.

Okay I'll change the line from horn relay to ? The Wiper has a different type of plug so its not correct. The lead I have is original factory lead too. I guess I could tap into the fuse box like the directions I found said to do.
Thanks for the input

If you have a brown wire with a red connector near fuse block inside, think that should be a power source for your tach and lights will be on w/ ignition switch. Not sure when it changed from grey rheostat wire 68's used but 70 was this way I believe,,to reduce moisture in tach by having the lamps lit as a heat source.

Assembly manual shows three wires. Ground to screw that secures horn relay to body. Black and double pink wire to negative coil. Grey wire routes through the ACC firewall grommet and connects to another grey lead behind the dash. That grey wire is instrument lamp power which is dimmable with the other dash lights

I hope this helps.
