Apparently you and I are getting the information at the same time. I am gonna call Mark in the morning and get a pair on the way. If they fit good I will take pictures and post them up. After that I will be sending them off to get coated if they do infact fit well.

Maybe we can work with the moderator to get him freed up so he can post here. The info he has given to us has been helpful! I will try to get pictures along the way but I have a hard time stopping to take them when I am doing something! I miss all the Kodak moments along the way for some reason LOL. Maybe I can get the girlfriend to sit and watch and take them along the way.

Wink FYI...

I have seen the '70-up Tri-Y headers used successfully more than once. Cheaper alternative...especially for 11 sec or slower rides.

They should be the Hedman 28140 3 tube headers not tri-y. Marcel from SD Performance told me he ran them on his lemans for awhile.

Ya they fit with a little bit of persuasion to the drivers side firewall and floor pan. I guess that's expected. I think I also had to clearance the lower control arms some. When I bought my 83 el camino it had them on it. It had a 400 and absolute no floor pans. I miss that pos.

if you dont want to go fast then put 3 tube headers on,,or just use manifolds..i know im going to order a set of the round port headers from maddog, since my old headers are getting pretty thin..but when i was moving up in engines and hp we compared 3 tubes vs 4 tubes on kres dyno, and saw a easy 30 hp increase with 4tubes and not using 2 inch hookers, and this was on a 11sec motor this was just using a set of 3,s vs regular 4tubes..and if you dont want to spend the money(which i would rather do)66-67 gto 4 tube headers from hedman can be put on with alittle work,,

tose are the ones my friend used. Hedman Tri-Y if I'm not mistaken. But 30 hp is over half of your typical gain from switching to headers in the first place...so it's all in what you want, I guess.

30hp was the gain from 3tubes to 4 tubes,, not from manifolds

Well my headers showed up today and I haven't saw them yet. I had them shipped to my dads as I didn't want them laying on the porch at my town house for everyone to see. From what I am being told from my dad, they look pretty nice(and he is picky). Something that I was not aware of is the front tube on the passenger side is a slip in tube. I won't weld it in for a race car but it is something to be considered for the street car folks. I will post more when I have more info.

It has to be a slip tube because it wraps around the frame. There is no other way to do it with these frames in a g-body car. Been there, that's why mine where custom made because I did not want one tube to go around the frame and nobody made a good set with the right tube thickness. Just because the passenger side sits a little forward.

Thanks Mike

The gentleman that had the first set made for his car contacted me to let me know that they do not go around the frame. They were made in two pieces so they could be installed without having to raise the engine to get them in the car. Hopefully this weekend I will get to putting mine on and get pictures up for everyone to see.
