Seems about 4-$6,000 high imo, but really depends on condition.
If it needs paint, it is way high.
I think this one was originally black and silver...

The one im looking at doesn't need paint, but does need tank flush, brake inspection, fluids changed, ect ect , all to be done by the seller, The one in Tenn, the black one was originaly silver. Cant understand why he changed the color. he told me he built the car of his "dreams'. Cant seem to find a buyer, though, even after he lowerd the price. I like the way the black one is optioned. The seller of the 4300 mile cars has sold 4 cars to Steve Ames, who said he knows of another 78 with lower miles. Hard to believe. I like 78-80s, but cant see spendind 16k after just buying a 31k mile Trans Am last month {TA was 20 grand with t tops and original white paint}. Ilike the one in Buffalo for 3 grand. Probably end up buying the 4300 k mile car, even though i'll never get my money back. Maybe ill "lowball him at 14k and see what happens

Just my .02 but I think 16K for a 78 GP (and I actually like them) is too much. In the case of a car sitting since 1992, a lot of things can need rebuilt or replaced. Low miles like this can be as bad for a car as high mileage.

It depends on what you are looking for, but some of the ones Kent posted look like better deals; i.e. less money invested, more likely to drive/enjoy the car instead of being afraid to put miles on it.

If you really want to spend big bucks on one, the Chattanooga GP looks like a better buy (in spite of the color change) because of options and the fact it has been completely rebuilt. It even has the rare 79-80 GP & GA true wire wheels (my 79 GA also has them). Funny, if it truly is his 'dream' car, why is he selling it?

The Buffalo GP (unless it is under 5' of snow) and the Cincinnati one look like nice lower priced ones.

Do you have any pics, or a link, to the 2 tone Blue one?

-Dave

The one with 4300 hundred miles is being gone over right now. Pictures will be available in a few weeks when I see the car after the "fluff' job. I once had a 79 LJ with Visconcy leather, t tops, and factory spoke rims, so I appreciate the black one in Tenn, just not crazy about the color change. I once had a GTO {June 2007 High Performance Poniac cover car} that was value compromised by a color change. Wont make that mistake again unless the price is right. Have other options that may become available soon,.

I understand your concerns on a color change, doing them right is very costly, undoing them ever more so. A counterpoint to that, the late 70s cars will probably never become as valued as a GTO or Trans Am (although for me, the 1973 up cars were the new cars when I started driving), so I don't think it will affect the value as drastically. Without seeing either car in person, although I have seen the photos of the Black car on eBay and CL, the difference in price goes a long way towards offsetting the wrong color.

As I said in my earlier post, this is just my .02, and my perspective is different than yours, since you will be the one spending the money. Keep us posted.

-Dave

Scott, that price is crazy. If it was Black with leather and T-tops it still would not be worth that. If you like losing money, this is a winner!

The TA I have was sold to me by Dave Dombrowski, the Vette dealer. Can has NEVER been advertised anywhere. I think im just a 68-69 A body kind of guy. Maybe we can work out a trade towards future work on a Lemans or something

I agree, that the Price is Crazy unless you want to show an original survivor car at shows, and do nothing else with it.
A friend of Mine has a 78 SJ 301 4bbl car with less than 40,000 miles available, Chesterfield Brown, but it is a No A/C car, and that seems to be hurting his resale. The last I heard he was looking for $6000 for it.
So is 34,000 less miles worth $10,000? Not to me but considering the better options, and more popular Color combo of the Blue on Blue car it could be worth $10,000 to $12,000 to the right buyer.

Looking forward to seeing the Pic's when posted. The 78-80 GP's are starting to grow on me.

Jeff,
The oddity and color of your friend's car is just what attracts me. I especially like Chesterfield Brown, I had a 78 T/A 6.6 WS6 4spd that color back in 1980. Ironically, it didn't have A/C either (but had the deluxe velour interior). I'd love to see any pics you have of his GP.

Scott, call me at the shop Monday and we can chat about the TA. I may be interested in buying outright.I have a red 77 TA I am going to sell in the spring.I really like these 78-80 GP,s. My dad bought a Heritage Brown 79 SJ,with saddle leather, rally 4 wheels. It was a cool car! Not a big fan of the vinyl tops, and never a fan of 2 tone paint. These are great driving cars.I do understand your desire to own a 68 or 69 abody, they are sweet cars too.

I agree the GP in the original post is over-priced, even with ultra low miles.
I might pay that kind of money if there where a similar mileage 4-speed example (or 79-80 Grand Am) but it would have to be one of my favorite colors. I just don't go for those medium blues of the late 70's though.

The pale yellow Orlando one looks yummy to me. Amusing that they think it is a 1978 model.

Dave I PM'd you some info on the car, it has 15,000 miles on it, SJ Model 301 4bbl, no A/C and very few power options. Chesterfield Brown. He has it put away for the winter in his enclosed trailer so he will be sending me pic's soon of what he can get without pulling it out. He wants $7000.00 for it.

I will post the pic's and info when I receive it.

Still planning on looking at the 4300 in a week or so. Consesus thought is that its overpriced. I agree. 13-14 is probably what im thinking. If the guy is planning on sticking at 16k, it had better be nicer than my 1975 AMC Pacer

Be sure to inspect the connecting points of C-pillar to roof for swelling beneath the vinyl top. A sign of rust due to poor sealing of the stainless back glass trim.
The factory does not finish the body filler at the four roof connecting points because they can get away with it (on a vinyl top car).

And get a photo of the trim tag if you can.
