first gen axle shafts
looking for a pair of first gen axle shafts for my 68 8.2 BP housing. Would prefer nodular, but any good shafts will do. The closer to Chicago the better as I don't really want to deal with shipping.
Thanks, Chris

axle
Same axle as 65 1/2-69 Pont 'A' If you can't find any down there. I have plenty in Milwaukee.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if they were the same or not.

For an original '67 or '68 Firebird rear that would make the choice of stock axles that properly interchange to be - '66-69 Pontiac 8.2 axle (w exception of very very early '66 builds) - '66 or '67 BUICK 8.2 axle with RW507CR bearing (not Buick Buick Sportwagon or others with larger RW508 axle bearing) - also... '67-69 TYPE "O" Olds 10 bolt 28 spline axle. Sealed axle bearing, 3 holes in the axle flange, 28 splines. IF the rear is a stock Pontiac 8.2 HD Safe-T-Track & the axles are chewed under the sealed bearings, your best choice is to buy a new pair of Moser or Dutchman axles, nice used originals are near extinct. In 35 years of tearing down sealed axle bearing 8.2 HD STT rears, there has been only one instance where the Nodular housing was junk & the whole mess yielded a nice pair (after cking bearing lands) of forged axles.

Thanks for the info on the nodular stuff. I suspected they might not be the easiest to find and I was leaning towards Moser anyway. Pretty sure that's the route I'll take when I build the 68 nodular housing with the Eaton carrier and 4.33s. That's a couple years away for what it's worth. oph, BIG thank you for the info.
