Default 72 Lemans Grill mesh color?

I've seen the 72 Lemans with T41 grill eggcrate mesh both black or silver. What was correct from the factory?

I'm bringing this back up since I didn't get an answer. I've seen cars with the grill eggcrate mesh black and I've seen it a silver color. What is correct on a 72 GTO?

not black, too many folks have taken cheap rattle can semi gloss black paint to '71 & 72 LeMans endura grilles. Not sure if the 71 & 72 T41 alum grilles thin fins were anodized or painted, but they were a shade of silver/gray.

My Dad bought my 72 GTO in 2005, car was mostly original but was messed with. The grilles looked anodized to me. Having always had 70 GTO’s I liked the black grilled so I had them powder coated black. Paint won’t hold up there and will chip, not even sure the powder coating will, still haven’t had this car on the road yet.

Thanks guys. I guess I could paint them argent silver like the grill surround. That way if paint chips or wears, it will still be silver looking.
