Default Speedo Gear Adapter 70 4.33

Fellas -

Trans is coming together for my RAIV M21 4.33 car. Trans guy is trying to source the correct parts. Looks like I need a 20 tooth driven and a 6 tooth drive gear - http://www.teufert.net/speedo/70-gto-4.html.

Also need a speedometer gear adapter, which is a new one for me. Not finding much with a search. Are these reproduced or am I looking for a used or NOS one? If I need used, I hope they're not specific to 70 4.33 cars, or I could be looking for a while.

Thanks,

Scott

I just switched from my original 3.23's to an 8.5 with 3.90's. I picked this up-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_500wt_1182
It has not even come yet,so I have no idea of quality. I just started a thread in the street section last week about these (New to me also)- http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ht=speedometer
If you search flea-Bay there are some out there.

Ok, looks like these are not that expensive, but not sure how correct it is. Does anyone have an original one of these that they can take a picture of?

Thanks,

Scott

I'm kind of surprised by the lack of info on these. Not too much response in my linked thread,as you can see.
In my case I was not too worried about correct, just accurate. I'd be interested to see what originals look like myself.
FWIW,I did put my adaptor in yesterday, but no time to drive it yet.

Click the link, save the file to your desktop by going to File - Save As, click Cancel to the login prompt. Open it up and insert your info on the left to find your needed drive/driven gear.

GM part numbers included. You can still order most if not all the parts listed last time I checked.

Appreciate you posting the picture. Do you know what the part number is? Also, what was it originally installed on?

Found the correct pages from the assembly manual, but very difficult to read. Pages are 12-4.1 thru 12-4.4. Looks like the adapter part numbers are 540474, 535615, and 535617. They are similar in appearance to the one pictured below. Any ideas on which adapter is which? Wonder if they all look the same externally.

Thanks

Scott

Anyone have a 70 Assembly Manual that doesn't have lousy print quality on these pages?

Thanks

Scott

Now I'm not sure that I need an adapter - see page 15 here: http://www.murraysimon.com/GR04_ILL.pdf

No adapter listed for 4 speed, G70 14 tires, 4.33 gear.

Thanks

Scott

Scott, no offense man, but you just aren't reading the posts are you? If you would have paid attention to what I attached it would tell you quite clearly you need a 6/21 and no adapter with 4.33's and G-70 14's (25.1" diameter).

Simple as that.

I read your post and downloaded the Excel document - "GM Speedometer Gears." What was clear to me after reading the document is that it did not contain all the information I was looking for. As I stated in my initial post and in a later post, I am looking for "correct" parts - - as in original equipment. In other words, this is a resto project, so I want my speedometer to be accurate, but if my car came with an adapter, I wanted to know that as well. So, I appreciate your input, but your document offered no info on the adapter question. Simple as that.

Scott, I'm not sure where the 6 grooves comes from on the drive gear ('69 Firebird w/4speed and 4.33:1 was 7). But, here is a copy of the parts manual...

I dont know if this helps but 70 manifest/option code says
sales code#591 upc code w55 speedometer adapter w/special order gear ratio..so it says it needs one..

I have had a few, i actually have one off a 70 white Ram IV Judge my buddy bought out of a yard in the late 80s, the car was apart like some one took it apart to restore and it never made it back together..inside the car was the flappers, the air cleaner, a set of 4.33 gears and a speedo adapter...i kept the adapter, but cant find it right now....i have several, and they are easy to get if you know where to look...late 60s to early 70 1 ton chevy trucks with 4.10 4.56 and 4.88 gears and the big muncie granny low 4 speed...i get them every time i see them, and sell them quickly to the chevy boys.....anyway, they are identicle in appearence to the one out of the judge...

Bumping an old thread...

Found one of these in my GTO parts stash. It's stamped .8241 and it looks just like the one My442 posted below.

Looking at the ones on eBay, it appears these were made by Stewart Warner and the going rate is about $50.

I'll be selling this one if anyone needs it.

Scott
