Default 18”x10” wheels on a 70 convertible?

I am looking at buying some superlite/ mini lite reproduction wheels from either TA wheels or ET wheels.

I like the look of the 17x9 of the TA Wheel superlite but think the 18” wheel may give more tire options. Cost for the wheels are about the same.

I have the year one 17” wheels on my 70 hard top with 275’s all the way around with no issues but I am not sure if the wheel wells are different on a convertible?

Any suggestions/ input?

The is the photo that I found on the web that made me fall in love with the wheels. The more I look at this pic I think these might me the ET 18”wheels due to the size and polished lip?

I am painting my 70 vert OO so this is a good representation

I must be getting soft in my old age...I've never been a big fan of large diameter wheels on vintage muscle cars, but those look pretty good.

I’ve found 17”s to be a good mid size wheel. I have retro style 17”s on my 68 convertible, 70 hardtop and 79 TA. I have 18”s on my 72 TA clone and that’s about as big as I am willing to go on mid size cars. My 60 Safari and 73 Caprice convertible both have 20”s which I can handle on a full size but has to be the right wheel- you can get gangster real quick if your not careful!

I looked closer at the wheels and it looks like the OO Judge is riding on the TA Superlites which I prefer over the ET mini lite. I don’t think they are offered in an 18” size so I might pull the trigger and order these in the 17” size

Here's the link to the article on the car you're referencing. Looks like they used the 17" wheels.

Awesome! Thank you!!

Are the wheel wells the same size on a convertible as a hard top?

The tops of the wheel wells are flat for the top to fold and lay on top of. You may have clearance issues. Especially when driving over rough roads or bumps.
