Weatherstripping Location
I am looking for the measurement of the vertical weatherstrip behind the front fender a few inches forward of the front of the door. My body shop forgot to measure it or even take a picture. Thanks.

I kept the original pieces, but didn't install them in my '64. What function do they perform?
If you don't get answers, I'll dig mine out and give you the number. .

not a good pic . But it it runs from 3 inches on the top of cowl down the pinch weld on the side of cowl to a few inches from bottom. This seal is directly under the inner fender brace. If you place fender on car you will be able to see where it seals against fender and cowl. the exact Leigh is not so critical .
If you notice in my pic the top of seal you can see laying over on cowl |

Its my understanding this just acts sort of like a "door sweep" between the cowl and the fender.
More so to keep debris from getting in down behind the fender if the door is open. It's not a tight seal so this seems to make sense.

No it glues to the pinch weld and lays on top of cowl . It seals the air/water whatever.
note . my crude drawing . if you put the fender on without inner fender you can look in and see. If you left it out not sure it would matter. |

Don't forget the foam type seals ( 2 ) on top of cowl that the vent panel seals to.

For 1964 I could not find my notes for these Front Fender Anti-Squeak Seals. I have a bunch of these seals, but could not find any but one. It measured 28" long. Shrinkage is possible, but with these seals glued (yellowish contact like cement) to the entire length of the panel, I would not expect much shrinkage to occur. Along with their name (anti-squeak) I believe these seals (hollow foam tubes - 7/8 in. dia.) also helped to keep out some debris, reduced wind noise, and made nesting material for small rodents. |
