Cool!
I had a friend years ago, who's dad found an 80/81(??) four speed Malibu coupe. iirc he checked through GM and said it was one of something like 160 cars built with that drivetrain! The rust on this thing, make me think it's going to get crushed - I mean the hood and roof are rusted through!

ACK.
Are people even restoring those things yet? That one is pretty far gone :/

I had one at least that rusty. Cool cars, but not much value to most people. Mine got sold for the drive train. I have a bunch of 78 to 80 GA parts, but they don't sell well either. My 2c

the four speed parts are kind tough to find;
The cream of the crop is a four speed console - something that car doesn't appear to have.

No matter how you look at that one you will have to have a complete car that has no rust & rebody it because the car is rusted from bottom to the top. I don't know if you would ever get done with just the body work on that one.

As cheap as I would think those things should be just buy a solid one too, move the 4 speed stuff over, and then stick a 455 in it. Real sleeper that would be!

as I see it, the only part worth scavenging off that car is the clutch pedal - since it has no console, there is nothing else unique.

Really not even the pedals are worth that much because they are the little style & if you have real size feet those are very hard to use because they are so small. Plus those bodies seem to not like a lot of power in them because the frames are so small to. When you get a lot of real power to them they like to go sideways & twist the frames. Then the rear bumpers fall off.

... but if you have a Malibu/Grand AM, you need the manual transmission parts to convert a not-rusty car;
Which is why I said you would need the pedals.

Yes but the pedals are the same as the firebird pedals so It would be better to use the pedals from a 75 or older bird. That way you have a full size pedal so your foot will fit it better.

I love these cars, counting my current one, I've owned 5 1979s including one 4spd. Unfortunately, this one looks too far gone to restore. The roof rust scares me, and the amount of rust creeping up the shifter. I'd say it is worth maybe $1000, just for the drivetrain parts and odds and ends. Since it has a Black interior, unlike my Red one, the interior plastics should be in good condition. I recently found a 78 Grand Lemans in a local yard with a Black interior and the plastics were mint.
BTW, unruhjonny, since I am a big fan of these cars, and work at a Pontiac dealership (we obviously don't sell them anymore, but still have all the catalogs), I've found the console from an 80s Monte Carlo is actually the same. The near impossible piece is the tray that goes where the AT shifter on the MC is. -Dave

Around the same time, olds had built a similar amt of 4-dr 4-speed cars for export to the middle east, and at the last minute, the deal was scrapped and they were sold domestically. They were called "Iraqi Taxis".

We had tons of those 4speed Malibus here in Montreal as they were built in the now defunct plant north of the city. The Iran Iraq war killed the sale so they dumped them on the local dealers. I still see them at local cruise nights, a few of them ended up in the hands of some serious street racers and they now pack 502's.
