Torqstorm On 68 or 69 GTO, Who Has Info On Install & Power?
I'm probably buying this later this week, but I'm curious those with a 68 or 69 GTO what you can comment on...
Install time? Hood clearance? Using their hat or Extreme etc? What pulley size and what's the psi you're noticing around 5k to 6k (heads you have matter)? Any other comments would be helpful thanks. I will come back one day and comment on all these myself. I'm getting it dyno tuned so I'll know for sure.

I posted this in another thread:
I knew I had read somewhere the max output of the Torqstorm unit was rated at. The unit is rated for 500 horsepower. Even the smallest competitor superchargers are at least 100 hp higher on their output. This is one of those 'Looks" type deals. 1) Looks Cool 2) Probably could never hurt your street engine 3) Gives you MAYBE 150 HP OVER the typical 350 HP type Pontiac engine. Few 350 HP rated engines ever made 350 hp actually on the street without mods. More like 275 rear wheel HP. Tom V. But it you like cool with your 4000 vehicle an extra 150 HP with be felt in the Drivers seat.

The video below was pretty cool, pretty much 700hp at the engine was possible on a 4.8L or a 6.7L. That's plenty for me and the 3.1 pulley seems like the ticket to do it. I'm running E50 on Holley HP so the tuning should be pretty straight forward at low boost levels.

Probably not a fair comparison to think that your Pontiac willl perform the same as an LS engine. They have superior ports and combustion chambers (among other things) compared to the old Pontiac design.
Either way....it looks like you have some good parts on your car already, you would probably gain more power from a better unit such as Vortech, Procharger etc. along with some good brackets such as Luhn. That would also give you room to grow if you want to add more boost later on. |

Understand, the engines are different especially the heads. But that's why it was only 5psi to 6.5psi on the Chevy where for me it might show 9psi etc to hit the same compressor flow. The flow is what matters and it'll flow enough for 725hp so that's plenty enough for me. Hell 650hp is great but I'm mainly curious about the questions...
Install time? Hood clearance? Using their hat or Extreme etc? What pulley size and what's the psi you're noticing around 5k to 6k (heads you have matter)?

SUPERCHARGER, made 862 hp at 13 psi and 5300 rpm. Try to make that number with your Torqstorm supercharger at 13 psi of boost and 5300 rpm. The right supercharger does make a difference. Tom V.

Totally agree Tom Supercharger size matters no disagreement there. 13psi is not 13psi across the board, I definitely have seen that as my 91 Talon had a 42mm turbo and now has a 62mm, massive difference.
I'm mainly concerned with GTO owners who have the Torqstorm and what they're noticing, not that Torqstorm is more powerful than X or Y brand. Also I'm not looking for 850hp let alone 750hp or looking to spend $8-10k all in on that. Mark Luhn is great and appreciate how time and efforts in the community, but some of us have smaller goals and safer long term outlooks. A convertible with 850hp on a stock 400 block sounds like big trouble years from now.

Doing a new engine, this was the plan for the old engine. I'll go this route if I need a bump into the 650+ range but that might be more than I need and can afford for now. I'll be $20k its looking like easy to do all the new upgrades. Ouch

got it. good luck with the new ride. On a somewhat related question, it says max compression for the torq strom is 9.3. Is there a way to know your engine compression with the motor assembled? Never learned what mine was from PO....

On pump gas 9.3 might be the max compression but on E50 there's no problem even with my 11.6 compression. It's only going to push 6-10psi depending on your head flow etc and pulley size.
