Default Accelerator Pedal Rod - 71 GTO

While the owners fix is not "concourse correct" it has apparently been effective.

What kind of clip should there be to keep pedal rod in place as per the Pontiac factory?

I have a 72 Shop Manual which is useful 95% of the time on the 71 but not in this instance as 72 set up is different, at least on mine.

Thanks as always

A short hairpin is what mine had.

Thanks Scarebird

Just to clarify my post that was the previous owners fix. Its amazing what you find done to old cars to make them run when they were just old cars, lol.

To Scarebird's point, here's your pictorial example from my 71.

Luv cotter keys too, but I'm curious... how would it fall up, Scott? Maybe if I rolled the car? But then I think that hairpin would be the least of my worries. Heh.

Mine seems to have been in place for 52 years & 125,000 miles now. I think it'll be okay.

The "R"-clip is correct.

My '68 has an R clip but I pulled this one from I think a '70s GP in the junkyard.

I have found the 1/16" cotter pin is used for 1969 and earlier and the "R"-clip for 1970 and later vehicles.

Very possible Kenth. I've had it a long time and it very well may have come from a '67 LeMans I pulled some stuff off of. I have two more pedals with no clips and one came from a GP.
