Hi Chris,

T/S is done. Too fast.....for my family. Plus all money was tied up in it, so we have to start over.

We may go 10.0, pro tree racing. We have the motor/trans, but I want a car that is done, with a cage done by a reputable builder, not by somebody in their garage. A Super Stocker would probably work.
Or we would have it done. If so, I would do a 78-83 G body (LeMans, Grand Am). So if there is still a granny car like this out there, in great body condition, let me know.

Thanks
Tom

QUICK-SILVER, I sent you an email via PY a couple of months after you posted on the thread where I have it listed for sale. I had somebody very interested but we could never mesh our schedules up. I work a bunch and I'm on call for work every other weekend. The car is 2 1/2 hrs from where I live.

Email me at poncho_mike@yahoo.com

My dad and most of his friends were car guys. We went to area drag strips often when I was young, mainly Shuffletown Dragway in Charlotte. Rockingham Dragway opened up when I was around 12 or 13, and we went to see some of the big national events. The custom paint on this car reminds me so much of the big name cars running at Rockingham events.

Don't know exactly how clean it has to be. But here's a '78 Lemans that looks decent in the pics, for $2500.

Some things have changed since I placed this ad but you get the idea. It's light enough it wouldn't take much of an engine to go 10.00's. Let me know if you need more info. Make my Dad an offer he can't refuse.

Damn, Tom- I saw your father yesterday and he told me you were talking about another race car. Didn't know you'd already started the search. Glad to see you getting right back at it. Best of luck with your search.

Nice car Jeff, I cant believe it is still for sale. The class I want to race can not be a full chassis car.

Default race car

My brother in law has this 61 tempest for sale. Has gone a best of 9:27 when Mark Pickett owned it. Now runs 9.8s with a 535 in it. Luckys race cars did the rear chassis work and roll bar. Cars in Wall Nj if you are interested. Will sell as roller.

Hi,

I'm not a racer, so I may not be able to answer your questions but I'll try.

The current engine is a 502 w/Dart Iron Eagle heads, it has a TH400 w/transbrake, and 4.56 gears in a Ford 9". The engine was built with moderate compression (9.6:1) and the guy was going to run a big nitrous setup on it. In it's current state, the engine dyno'd somewhere around 560HP. The owner's goal was 900 HP with nitrous.

The roll cage was upgraded to the regulations in effect in 2000. The owner had a changing family situation and quit racing. I bought his car trailer, the car, and a bunch of Pontiac parts.

I used to bracket race in my youth. The best I did was run low 8's in the 1/8 mile, and I thought that was awful fast at the time for a street car.

Mike

Bump for more cars.

Just looking to add to the list.

Looking for a back half, street type car, to run 10.0s.

Or a 78-81 Lemans/Grand Am, granny car, with body in good condition, so we could build from there.

Thanks

"...A Super Stocker would probably work..."

I suppose you already know about this one, since it looks like your ad, in that section.

http://classracer.com/classforum/showthread.php?t=63615

And I suppose you've already checked out Racing Junk .com

http://www.racingjunk.com/Door-Cars/...d-Chassis.html

Never heard of this site. But there is an '83 back half Bird roller listed. Don't even know if Birds are legal under the rules you'll be running.

http://www.maritimedragracing.com/id15.htm

"...Looking for a back half, street type car, to run 10.0s..."

OK, you want a "back half street type car", with a professionally built cage. So, exactly how stock street type does the rest of the interior of the car have to be. What about glass body parts & lexan windows ?

Sounds to me like a Super Stocker fits your description.

I'd check with John or J.B. Clegg, in South Texas. They've been doing some serious SS racing with 2nd & 3rd gen Birds, for a long time. May have or know of something that would work for you.

If I were going to pursue the idea of a Super Stocker, I'd try to get in touch with some of the Pontiac SS racers, who are out at the National and div races every week.

Most of them are far too busy racing, to spend time on the forums. But, they are the guys who know what's out there. And, if a 3rd gen Bird is OK, that opens up the possibility of a Bird that is set up for Chevy power. No big deal to switch it over to Pontiac. And there are probably way lots more Chevy powered 3rd gens out there to choose from.

It's near the end of the season now. So, there will be lots of cars coming up for sale. Some of these Pontiac SS guys might be able to put you in contact with some possibilities, before they appear in classified ads.

A few names that come to mind are: Vic Santos, Peter & Sam Biondo, Mike Morgan, Greg Meyer, Scott & Brad Burton, Bill Rink, Carroll & Norman Warling, Leo Glasbrenner.

I know that the Vic Santos 3rd gen was for sale a while back. Seems I remember that he loaned it to somebody else for a race earlier this year.

Peter Biondo probably knows more GT SS racers than just about anybody.

Scott Burton built a 3rd gen that both he and Brad drive. They do a lot of racing from the Midwest to the West coast. I've read that they are real nice guys, and have helped a lot of other Pontiac racers. I think Norman Warling lives close to Scott. And Norman posts here sometimes. So, it might be a good idea to PM Norman and let him know what your lookin for. He can pass the word on the Scott & Carroll.

On the East coast, the Stock racers Dave & Dean Ribeiro, Adam Strang, & Todd Hoven, make a lot of big races. They may be able to help. I think Adam & Todd post here occasionally.

There are some of these guys, along with Bob Michael, Bob Mulry, & Brent Flynn, who post over on the Class Racer site. Mark Yacavone is another guy who posts over there, who knows a lot of racers. I'd post a wanted thread over there, in one of the main sections. That way, a lot more guys would see it than just posting in the classified section.

And I'd try to PM or in some way contact these guys I've mentioned. Hey, some guys will try to help other racers & some won't. The more you have trying to help, the better your chances of finding the right car.

Some of the Pontiac class racers also post on the Pontiac Drag Racers Facebook page. That is another good place to post your wanted ad.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/pontiacdragracers/

Another guy who might could help is Tim Gillespie. He's had several Stockers and a Pontiac powered S/G car. He goes to some big races and probably knows lots of racers.

Also thought of another good contact--Randi Lyn Shipp.

She makes all the National events, and probably knows most everybody running Stock & Super Stock, on a national level.

https://www.facebook.com/rlshipp

I noticed that she's on the SS pre-entry list, for the up-coming national event, driving a 4th gen Bird, with 428 Pontiac power. But, it's not listed as a GT car. So, I don't know if it really has Pontiac power or not.

J.B. Clegg is also on the list, with his 9 sec SD455 '74 Bird.

http://www.nhra.com/events/entrylist01.aspx

Lynn McCarty & family also race Pontiac powered GT cars. They may know where something is.

I'm sure I forgot some Pontiac GT guys. One I just thought of is Don Kennedy. He posts over on the Pontiac Drag Racer Facebook page.
