Default console lid spring replace

Trying to figure out how the console lid spring goes on the hinge of my 72 Lemans. Spring was broke in half when I got the car and fell off when I opened.

Mine was broken when I got the '68. I never replaced it and don't miss it at all.
I know...that doesn't answer your question..lol

Maybe I paid $12 for a new spring for nothing then. I thought the lid would rattle when closed with no tension on it. Not?

Mine doesn't...your mileage may vary. Honestly, if I already had one I'd probably use it. I just didn't miss it enough to replace it. I rarely open the console on my car.

I am still interested in how it is configured on the hinge. I've messed with it many ways and can't grasp how it assembles.

You're a better man than I. I tried and every time I got close to putting it in it came apart. I threw the spring in the glove box where it is working just fine.

I took it back off for now. I didn't like the tension and it seemed to cause the lid to sit different and rub against my newly painted console.
