I started typing this by memory, then I played it safe by getting my February 1995 issue of HPP;
line 1: BODY BY FISHER (self explanitory) line 2: ST77 2F87 N 186112BDY ST77 = 1977 model year 2F87 = Firebird coupe N = Norwood Ohio assembly plant 186112BDY = sequential body number; this is according to my info almost a useless number as it has no correlation to anything other than other sequential builds from the same time line 3: TR 24B A51 22L 22UPNT TR = trim callout 24B = I believe this indicated a blue velour interior A51 = seat location (useless) 22L = Glacier Blue lower paint 22U = Glacier blue upper paint (if this was a different code, it would have indicated a vinyl roof) PNT = (self explanitory) line 4: 03E A31 W67 BUE 03E = build date; fifth week of March A31 = (unknown) W67 = model callout; Esprit BUE = possibly a dash and console colour callout line 5: 450390 (not deciphered as of yet)

A31 = power windows
450390 looks like a general assembly (final line) sequence number. K

That was my gut reaction, but according to the HPP article, that's on all 1977 Firebirds, and when that article was printed, it was listed as "unknown".

Thx a lot gentlemen .. thx for looking.
So all appears original to the car minus the formula kit (I mounted) It’s a California Esprit with 5.7 olds / Th350 / AC / PW Tilt column Glacier blue

I'm not sue how often a Norwood car was built for California, maybe the location never mattered, order placed and either got it.
Often the mention of interior colour at the end of the plate refers to steering column or similar, since on most other vehicle (pre-79) these were black regardless of interior colour, which was often handled by Fisher anyway. Esprit was one model that had matching colour for column/wheel. |
