I just had an engine rebuilt, and it leaked very bad, seems the actual machined area for the old rope seal isnt quite concentrict, or in the center of the crank bore line. This gives a .020 gap and the BOP seal doesnt cut it, its a 76 455 block. I also noticed, while its apart now after 7 min of run time, that the FIRST cam bore has a lip on the inside. Ive never seen this on a poncho engine, and this engine was never apart before I got it. Could it be that its supposed to be there for correct aligning of the first cam bearing? the part that is machine looks rough, like it wasnt finished, but Id like some opinions, Thanks!! You guys are a great bunch!!

formulabruce,

You might get a quicker responce to this question over in the Pontiac-Street forum. There are some pretty good engine builders that contribute to that forum on a regular basis.

Jim.
