Default Thank you GMC for such a useful commercial!

I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to GMC for showcasing the merits of hands-free driving assistance in the new Denali commercial. We are finally free to play patty-cake and thump our chests instead of driving. I knew there had to be an actual use for this "valuable feature" and now I know. Well done GMC, well done.

"Hey honey, you can change the baby's diaper while you drive and I can finish that ship-in-a-bottle I've been working on for a year while I drive! Let's buy it!"

There is nothing, at any GM dealership currently that interests me.

They have given up on us as customers and it was probably a smart decision.

I can pay 120k for a Cadillac and get my ass handed to my by a 8 year old Charger. No thanks.

When kids learn how to exploit this technology it's going to get weird. They'll be stepping out in front of them, playing chicken with them, they will find the weaknesses that cause them to crash or do strange things.

I threw out my idiot box almost 10 years ago so I had to look this up on YouTube. Here's the link:

I don't agree with this technology nor do I want any part of it, but it will work its way into vehicles of the future. Just more reason to go vintage (my newest vehicle is 1999).

I have zero doubt that in 40 years everyone will be traveling in government provided electro-pods that record your every move, word and deed. Vintage cars will probably be required by law to fill the cylinders with concrete so they can't be run.

For every one person that actually takes driving seriously as a necessary skill there are 20 that consider it a PITA disruption to their social media activity. I have four nieces and nephews in their mid 20's ... not one of them owns a car, or has the desire to own a car.

Short of an asteroid hitting the planet the entire population will be state sponsored mindless drones in fifty years, whoever wrote the movie Idiocracy should have won the Noble Peace Prize for fortune telling.

Technology is making people dumber. I would have said stupider, but I knew some smart alek would've pointed that out.

I'm sure you guys would agree but, what's so bad about driving? I still completely enjoy driving, it doesn't even matter what I'm driving, it's fun!

It interferes with valuable gaming and texting time.

So if you get cocked, and jump into your “auto drive” car, they can still bust you for operation under the influence, texting? Distracted driving ect . That said, exactly what is the point of a hands free system if you still have to pay 100% attention?
What a figgen fraud…

I have to admit I was surprised to see this commercial for the first time a few months ago. Even more surprised that it made it through legal at GM. A commercial that essentially says buy this truck and you don't have to pay attention to driving anymore. Everyone can be a passenger and the truck will take you where you want to go and you can play pattycake with the family. What's the #1 concern and emphasis for every enforcement agency in the country? Distracted driving. This commercial says to the customer, Buy me and you don't have to pay attention anymore, GM will take care of the Driving for you. On the flip side, I have driven several Cadillac vehicles owned by my school as well as several Tesla's also owned by the school. IMO, the Cadillac super cruise is much more natural in operation and takes much less input from the "driver" than Tesla autopilot. Overall, under normal circumstances, both systems are very impressive from a technical standpoint. IMO, the "who is responsible", issue has yet to be decided by the courts when circumstances are not normal. You have manufacturers saying, "leave the driving to us, our systems can do it , just watch this GMC commercial". Then in a tiny disclaimer, they claim you must pay 100% attention to the road and be 100% responsible when something goes horribly wrong with the technology. Sooooo, which is it? I would guess some high priced lawyers will ultimately make that decision. For now I will keep driving my 22 year old Jeep.

I always found a long road trip better than a trip to the shrink. I find it a metaphor for life. You are going somewhere, setting goals and accomplishing them, laser focus on the task at hand and not distracted by things that are truly insignificant. The Zen of putting the unimportant (past) behind you and you seeing the future ahead of you was the real payoff of the drive, not just going from Point A to Point B.

I’ve seen my share of accidents on utube where it was clearly the “autopilots” fault. I’ll just keep control of my own vehicle.

I have no interest in owning a car with autopilot features either, but I suspect the number of accidents caused by using them is much less than those caused by inattentive drivers.

I try never to get trapped in my own world .. like the NYC reporter who on hearing Nixon won the election said " How did Nixon win? I don't know a single person that voted for him"

We are now the exception to the rule on this forum. We actually like cars and driving and consider driving an actual activity we have to participate in .... we are the minority. Someday we'll look around and everyone will in their electro-pods and we'll say ... "How did this happen, I don't know anyone that would buy one of those"

But here’s the thing. At what point does the cops, DA and lawers say”. He was negligent because he drove WITHOUT auto drive engaged?????

That point may very well be reached within our lifetime. Happened with every other "safety device" that's come down the road.
