What pulleys interchange. I am running stock 64 water pump pulley but would like to drop down an inch.

Is a pontiac water pump the same as a long sbc or a short sbc or big block.

Thanks

Default pulley

I had a 6"aluminum WP pulley and swapped to a 6.5" pulley from a 76TA with AC.
That and an 8" crank pulley has my fan going at 120" crank RPM.
The aluminum pulley had wrong sized groove for PS belt.

Also my stat is NOS AC DELCO circa 1988 and has my car painting the 180 line even
on the hottest days. And NO CREEP at a long light! All the Robert Shaw units I had/have
all worked worse then the NOS unit and had some creep at a long light. Every thermostat
I tried had a slight variation. Best for me were the Superstat's.

I wish I took a pic of this thermostat as it had a .060 bleed hole in the outer ring. (where I
would usually drill a small hole to bleed air out).

Wouldn't going to a larger pulley slow your WP down ? If you are at 120 RPM now, you were turning greater RPMs with the smaller 6" pulley. I don't follow the logic here.

That is the fun part.
I have a 25 year collection of pulleys off various GM vehicles. The hard part is finding the correct offset to line up with what you got but it can be done. On some you just have to enlarge the 4 bolt holes to the holes in the water pump. I have some pulleys down to 4 inch diameter but the offset is way off.

Default Pulleys

I swapped from a 6"WP and 7.25"crank pulley to the
6.5"WP and 8" crank pulley at the same time. Did this to get
Better belt alignment due to WP pulley not having correct size
Groove for wider PS belt. Just felt it looked stupid. Now it looks and works awesome.
The way the PS belt ride up o the ALuminum pulley always bothered me.
Waited till I had right pulley size/ spacing to do swap.

Ahh, makes sense; I missed the part about upping the crank pulley to 8", although the ratios are almost identical after the swap of both.

.022 difference in ratio.

Default 120%

120% of the 8" pulley is more then the 120% of the 7.25" pulley.

I'm going to order the A-body 4 core for the Lemans. Engine will be going in this weekend if I don't get too wrapped up in baseball games, BBQ, and blue curacao margaritas while floating in the pool.

Or maybe black cherry Mike's Hard Lemonade chilled to brain freeze temps. All great methods for better cooling!

Squidward.......I have a Ron Davis aluminum radiator with 2 16" spal fans just sitting. If you want to take that and give it a try, let me know. Its a direct fit for a 68-72 A-body.

It's brutal today feels like 120 degrees. Nevermind keeping the engine cool but keeping the tires from melting on the road.

I agree. Thermometer says only 107. Seems a lot hotter than that. I can't believe my son's soccer team starts practice next week.

Thanks Tom. That's a great offer and I appreciate it, but new radiator is already on its way. I kinda want to do it once unless I am unsuccessful. I'm gonna make the starting point on the Lemans be similar to what ended up being successful on the bird. I already have 2 new fan shrouds (forgot I had one in the trunk when I ordered a new one), new clutch, and fresh painted factory fan - I'm kinda bought in to this route. Besides, I'll have to leave something looking stockish with the AMC metallic blue engine, FiTech, rpm clone intake, and chromey stuff!

And ugh... just after midnight, and it is still choking hot. Gonna go dunk in the pool, but that's much akin to bath water now.

Need fall now.

Watch out for the mosquito's. A single bite can be deadly. Ask me how I know.

Here's the Maricopa County West Nile Virus page. The deadly version is called West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease. I got it in 2011. Didn't have a name at the time. Very bad juju.

They count the dead birds because the virus needs a host so it can multiply. Eventually the bird dies. Any mosquito biting a bird close to death has the ability to KILL you if it bites you shortly after the bird.

Mosquitoes were pretty bad up into june. Haven't seen many lately. May change if we get monsoon rain tonight. The Flys are another story.
