Default Correct Fan

I'm replacing the aftermarket flex fan on my 70 with a clutch fan I have. Just curious if this is the correct fan for 70. The part number on the blades is 498579. My car is non AC, I still have the original fan, but was always under the impression that clutch fans were a nice up grade? Any truth to that? Thanks

Non AC '70 GTO should have 5 blade factory flex fan. Factory AC, then engine receieved the std clutch controlled fan. Typically, the correct stock 7 blade clutch fan will cool better than the same model factory five blade flex fan. Have experienced this on two no AC 4spd cars, one a '70 GTO with 3.55 rear gear, the other a 4spd 78 T/A with 3.42's. Both had modest upgraded 400's.

^^^^ THAT!...Tried a flex fan on my '70 455 (.30 OVER) 4 spd. modified GTO (around 510HP..) used it for about a week..went with a 7 blade factory clutch fan and had much better cooling..and ALOT quieter!

I always wondered if you ordered the clutch fan on a non A/C car did you get the AC pulleys (water pump and crank) or the regular pulleys. The difference is that the AC cars have pulleys designed to spin the water pump (and the fan) faster.

My '70 455 was ordered with the '6134 clutch fan (non-AC) and came with the XF fan, XD power steering and YA crank pulleys.

Which fan was correct for a '70 RA IV MT car (no AC obviously)? I believe it should be a direct drive (no clutch) 5-blade flex fan. If so, what size spacer was correct?
