If the numbers I have for that cam are correct then the cam should be installed right around the correct ICL.

Well, I finally got the lifters swapped out. Three of them were "jammed" in the top position, essentially becoming solid lifters (no spring movement whatsoever). The cam appeared to be in good shape, as far as I can tell.

Back in my college days, I had a 77 cutlass with a stock 350 Olds I had overhauled, with about 75,000 on it on the overhaul. One of my good friends had a similar era Grand Prix with a 350 Pontiac. I suspect 2.75 gear in both.

Two very heavy cars, with the arguably worst versions of their respective engines. We had to race them .. and often.

He'd get me by a car in the first 500 feet, at the next 500 we were neck and neck, and roughly at the quarter, I'd be a car ahead. This race, by the way, took forever, sounded unimpressive, used a fair amout of gas I could barely affort, and was a pretty substantial waste of a LOT of time. LOL

LOL! Yep, those Chevy guys are crying themselves to sleep every night not having to pay 2x the prices to play with Pontiacs.

... and not having a challenge to get 1HP per cubic inch. Seriously, everyone needs to experience an LT1 or DZ302 once in their life and see what all the fuss was about. Don't get me wrong, I love my Pontiac, but the Mopar 340 was the only motor under 400 cubes that cold hold a candle to a good small block Chevy.

I might have missed it but could the cam installed retarded? I advanced my cams in my 350s 4 degrees. I used a 068 in a 7H1 heads 350 and it ran 9.20s with a single track 3.23 gear and crappy center port exhaust manifolds. Bad audio, a friend filmed it with a potato.

Just finished a cam swap in a 61 Safari with a P350 in it. Previous owner put a 7157 performer RPM cam in it which was a very poor performer on a 4200 lb 2:87 geared wagon ! I found the crank gear had a punch mark placed over the 2* retarded mark which was hand punched which made it even worse down low. You never know what someone is going to do. Its not a terribly difficult swap.

That has been suggested. Near as we can figure, it's close to straight up.

It may come down to that, but I'm hopeful the new set of lifters will give me a better baseline.
