...more...the Honeycombs (all 5) are all dated 8-21-70 JX, so the originals I'm thinking. The doors are really clean (yah!!!) and the rear axle is the original 3.31 saf-t-track 12-bolt. The A/C suitcase doesn't show any indication of a vent for the hood tach, but don't know if it was ever replaced over the years. It doesn't have any dimples either for locating it and is teh black/blue grey color, not brownish black.

Oh, oh Mike....around our house a single horn is the 'weenie' horn. My '74 GTO has a weenie horn, I'm so embarassed to drive and need to use it....the shame (lol).

Luckily I don't use it...the reving of the engine more than makes up for the weenie horn...

My silver (not black like yours) grill doesn't have the PONTIAC either. Just 455?

Alright well these picture's won't tell you much, but no undercoat and just remainder of the black paint and some surface rust. Will be easy to clean up though!

Lyn.

So far no build sheets hidden anywhere, above the gas tank, in the seat springs, under that carpets (not original fwiw), above the glove box or anywhere behind the dash. Here are shots of the original glove box door tire size and inflation decal (toast) and maintanence decal (also toast) and the power trunk lid release button. The wiring for the rear seat speaker and trunk release are still present and uncut thankfully. The rear bumper has the two indents for the bumper guards, which were a fairly uncommon option in '71, at least on GTO's and GT-37's (& T-37's).

Thanks Lyn! Those do look like the bottom of the GT-37 with the exception of more desert dust. Yours and mine have remnants of black chassis paint and light surface rust. I do have areas of thin undercoating in the tunnel area and where the rear floor sweeps upward in front of the rear end, gas tank, and certainly the wheel wells and truck drops.

Of the nine wheels you have with that car, only one was there when I bought it in '88. This one was in the trunk as a spare and is easy to spot as the best looking one of the lot, with original paint making it fairly obvious.

IIRC, I replaced the inner suitcase becasue the original had a sizable hole in it when I bought it. It's probably off a GP, which used to be such an easy, seemingly endless source of parts back in the late 80's.

I found two build sheets in that car: one was under the package tray and in very good shape, and the other was on top of the tank (and toasted). I lost both over the years.

The tank, as you have found out, is not original. I suspect it was from one of my 68 GTO parts cars.

The paint on all jams is factory original. I only did a scuff and squirt on the outside of the body all those years ago.

Of course it was after I finished the one I did buy.

Now maybe my car is the inspiration?
Interesting how life works... I considered this one a lifetime keeper until I saw yours done. After that, I knew I could never do it justice.

If the original package tray is still in the car, might look under it for the build sheet. Typical Fremont spot.

OPH, Mike said he did find one under the package tray in nice shape and another above the gas tank that was toast, but misplaced them. The parcel shelf wasn't in the car when I bought it.

Mike, the Spare Tire has a date of 8-8-70, so not far off of the new ones you got. I should have realized the HC's weren't the original ones since the pictures of when you bought the car a Chanute AFB had mags and big tires on it. The HC with the tire (Super Sonic G60x14) is the original spare, right? Four of the HC's are 8-21-70 dated and the other four are 10-19-70, so they all work with the car's Dec. '70 build date.

Yes, the odd man out with the G60-14 was in the trunk when I purchased the car.
