Default Hurst 4sp shifter linkage care.

Does 4sp shifter linkage require or benefit from lubrication ?

If so what do you use ?

Thank you.

Yes ,you should keep the linkage greased. Back in the day ,"Hurst" sold the grease.

Any decent white lithium grease would work.

I respectfully disagree, as I have seen too many mechanisms locked up with hardened white grease. Window regulators, brake adjusters, bell cranks, you name it. I have used good quality wheel bearing grease on Hurst shifters and linkage for over 40 years with excellent results, and would recommend the same.

A good overall lube for a shifter is Würth HHS-K spray. It will adhere to surfaces so you can spray on top and sides of the levers/shims and it will penetrate and stay there. Same with the shifter bushings and lever bushings.

Factory assembly page shows they lubed at the bushings. On 65 tranny linkage, the nylon shifter bushings tend to wear out and the factory wave washers go missing leaving a sloppy and noisy shifter. $20 in parts and lube goes a long way to fix shifting problems.
