Default Repairing '72 Fender Extractors

Does anyone have experience repairing the '72 fender extractors. I would greatly appreciate any assistance! I've tried searching this forum, but have come up empty.

First of all, what is the material? I know that a magnet will not stick, so it is not ferrous metal. They are too heavy to be aluminum, so what alloy(s) are they made from? I think the screens and the screen housing are made from the same material.

Next, what repair methods have been successful? A couple of the small tabs that hold the screen in place are broken off, and the screen simply slides out. Is there a specific substance (glue, epoxy, other) that can be used to make a secure holding? Or is there another method? I think welding is out of the question ... or is it?

Any help would be appreciated,
Ogre

I am not positive but I thought they were made from pot metal. I don't think that can be welded but again I am not sure. There are so many cool welding technology's today. I did replace a missing screen from one of mine. The screen material wasn't the right stuff but it was close. I used epoxy on the outside edge to glue mine in place.. That was in 1987 and it still is holding.

Paul, Thanks.

You are most likely correct on the pot metal. It is definitely "cast", because the part numbers and letters are raised and not "stamped" in.

I'm gonna try to use a thin layer of JB Weld steel epoxy to "glue" the screen to the extractor body, and then (after drying) use a little thicker layer to cover the screen and hopefully make a solid covering.

I'll update with my results.
