Default ‘65 Tempest Custom

I love this car!

28,000+ miles on this two-tone Original paint Tempest Custom Survivor.

Very rare to see one of these in this condition.

Lots of aluminum trim,

Chris.

Nice car. Is this yours now? Looks like a heater core is needed for heat, but outside of that, pretty well kept survivor.

Agreed Chris! A new set of Whitewall tires and it would be a real stunner.

Not mine, but I wish!
I really like two-tone painted cars.

I stumbled onto this Tempest Custom surfing the net.
Possibly Barn Finds?

Not many options, but it does have the rear window defogger.

No scratches below the ignition switch.

Trunk weatherstrip is shot.

Chris.

I have been doing this Pontiac thing for over 30 years. Everything from Concourse winning cars to NHRA drag racing. I have seen a lot of cars and all types over the years. What interests me now are original survivor cars. They are only original once! Back in the day I was parting out Judges, 2+2s, Trans Ams etc. Now it is hard to find cars that are original and retain their original stock appearance in this cars condition. There are plenty of cars that are no longer original or are in need of a total rebuild to modify. Rare to find cars like this anymore.

I agree. Cars that I saw in the junkyard 40 years ago would be driver-quality survivor cars now. Had one owner agree to sell me an aquamarine/aquamarine '64 GTO minus it's 4 speed for $900. I came back a couple of days later and saw a shiny aquamarine quarter panel on a pallet and almost threw up. He said he changed his mind and parted the car for $1200. Quarter was going to a rust-belt state. This car was absolutely cherry needing only a trans. Many similar situations during that time. Classic cars with LS engines and modern frames, etc. do nothing for me. I don't even give them a sideways glance. I'm into the time period, the era of whatever vehicle I am driving, weather it's a 105 year old Ford or my '61 Corvette. These cars are true time machines. To strip the drivetrains and 'upgrade' them with new everything erases their history and steals their soul. If I want new car performance, I'll buy a new car and stay honest that way. But, I've never wanted a new car, so......Most of us know that modern powertrains are 'better' than the old 55 year old stuff. But that's not why we drive and enjoy these old cars. We enjoy them as they are for what they are.

I believe that's the first "X" code I've seen not associated with an "A" week.

I might take a sideways move on this one. No V8 of any sort but maybe a skip down one forum to Jeff and crew for an OHC Sprint 6. Maybe a TH350 hanging off the back. While I don't profess to know a lot about that swap, seems as though it would be pretty straight forward with minimum if any mods to the original car. Keep that 215 & TH300 is a safe spot if the car is ever put on the market. The TH300 might even be an air cooled type. Even the fender badges would be somewhat accurate..

I am no stranger to modifying cars. Case in point is my 68 Tempest Custom (see pics). However that 65 is so clean/original and unique with the 6 cylinder, I would leave it original. If it were mine I would clean/buff/polish the original parts. No touch ups or respray just the way 50+ years have treated it!
