Default 72 Choke coil part number

What is the correct part number for a 1972 455 HO Carburetor Stat coil or Choke coil? Is the HO different than the others? Thanks.

Here's a link to a visual. If your patient these come up every now and then at a much less cost. Plus they were used on many other models of Pontiac. They kill me with all the Hype just because it was used on the 455HO. As if it was exclusive to that engine. I realize a lot of parts were, but not everything.

Thanks for the response. The one in the link is for the 67-71 style. 72's are a completely different design.

Oops...Knew it was right for mine, ad said '72 also, should have verified that for your '72 prior to posting. Sorry about that. Glad you knew. Now I gotta find one just so I can see it and learn the difference.

Interesting listing from a 3/73 Pontiac MPC, section 3.750. It shows there were 3 different possibilities, none of them specific to 455HO.
1st is #482127 for "All A, B, F, & G w/ H.T., 4bbl."
2nd is #487112 "All 4 bbl. (stamped 71-12)."
3rd is #487198 "All 4 bbl. (stamped 71-96)."

Hope this is helpful.

FWIW,...I have a spare '72 455HO which was assembled in late April '72 and it has the stat stamped 71-96 (which I just noticed is the last 4 digits of the part number). So perhaps the later build dates used this 487196.

Ric, looking at your listing from the 3/73 MPB, fairly easy to see, already seeing Superceded parts numbers.

In the Scotts quetion in the '71-72 A-body forum, I noted the following break down from the March 1972 Pontiac Master Parts Book:

487196 was the original choke thermostat used on '72 455 HO engines,

487196:

-'72 all 4BC M40 with Y3, Y4, Y5 engine codes (late 72 model Dport 4bbl codes not in Pete's book)

-'72 455 HO

Thanks. What you found matches what is on my spare '72 HO motor. Wouldn't have thought that there would have been superseded parts in only one years time, but that appears to be the case.

Anyone have a picture? Just like to see one in place?

I guess this is it.
