Default Rear A/C Bracket

Good Evening and Happy Friday All,

After looking through the other treads there seems to be a conflict. Does the 64 GTO with A/C have a rear bracket (compressor to intake) on 4 bbl models? Some of the threads suggest that the rear bracket is only for Tri-power equipped models only.

My car didn't have it when I got it; it didn't have a lot!

Yes there is a bracket and it's different than the tripower bracket.

Here's the 2-barrel bracket that came on my '64 326 Le Mans, mounted on a 4-barrel '64 GTO 389 4-barrel engine.

I can't quite understand why the Tri-Power bracket would have to be different, but it must be if Bob says it is.

Why does the Tri-Power bracket have a different angle or whatever? Wouldn't the bracket mounting boss cast into the intake be in the same place and be the same height as on 2 and 4-barrel intakes?

Well, it won't be long before I can solve this mystery for myself. I'll see if the current bracket I have works or not when I install my '64 421 HO Tri-Power engine in the car.

Default Rear A/C Brakcet

This is definitely not my car. I'm not sure where I got the snap from. But, does this look like the picture?

My poor car has been in the paint shop since MARCH!

I see the Parts Place has something for sale for a 65 on eBay. Is that the same thing?

The mounting boss on a tp manifold is different height than 2 or 4 barrel. I had to make one for my tp convert. We cut the bracket at the base and flattened it 3/8", IIRC.

So this one the parts place is selling wont work? Id prefer to make it look as original as possible, but I have not had very good experiences with this vender. I have gobs of left over brackets laying around over the years (I've had my 70 since 1980). I think I can cut one and make it pretty much look the same; I suspect the belt alignment is accomplished in the front and the rear bracket is just for rigidity.

If you don't do the rear bracket right it till tip the compressor and spit the belt off.
