With the right fender off, you will see the evaporator screwed into the area the right kick panel vent would occupy.

I think there is still a company that makes a somewhat correct looking block-off plate(s) for the A/C and Heater Delete cars.

Hey, I was curious (although mine's a '66)... If I'm not particularly concerned about cutting a small piece off (down where you can barely reach), is it feasible to remove all this A/C stuff without removing the fender? It would be great to get rid of that big air box/fan assembly.

Short answer NO, not ALL of the components.
However one could possibly un-bolt and rotate the inner tub out to gain access to the large Evap, case under the fender/behind the tub.
But what a PITA that would be.

Rustycarr. The A/C stuff is good property so store it well. The 65 dash controls are unique and not the same as 64 so keep those with the 65 stuff along with the dash wiring and under hood A/C harness. Having a clean complete changeover for a non-air 65 could be worth its oats. The right kick panel and all of the underdash ducting is also unique to A/C cars and worthless to you if you are adding the modern kit. Even the heater core is different with A/C.
