Default 1972 GTO Coupe - 455 H.O. 4-speed

Posted on Tim Dye's Pontiac Museum website, this GTO was from the GTOAA Convention. Stated to be 1 of 3 built, and the car won several awards. Love the "battle ready" color and no nonsense interior!

Truman Fields owned a 72 GTO Hardtop 455HO, 4 speed hardtop, bench seat, heavy duty suspension, transistorized ignition. White exterior, green interior. Ran as super stocker.
A rare car?
It's somewhere in New Jersey now...supposedly...

All 72 455 HO GTO Optioned LeMans came with the Unitized Distributor's. That was mandated.I will say I love the color and Dog Dish's,but would have like'd to seen an Engine pic. as well.

The best part of the story has not been told here yet. I believe the owner's first name was Joe and he is around 70 years of age. The car was DRIVEN from Washington state to Monroeville, PA. It is unrestored from the firewall back. Front end was replaced/repaired at some point from collision damage. Besides the aforementioned 455HO stick combination...the best part in my opinion...piloted well over 2000 miles by an older gentleman with no air conditioning, bias ply tires, manual steering, and manual brakes! Joe was given the "Mike Nixon Memorial Award - The Ultimate Road Warrior" by our POSI chapter. The cars are fun, but it is the people and stories that make these events GRRREAT!

I believe he found the car in a junk yard left for dead with the front end smashed but complete. Talked to him for a while in Colorado. Great guy, great story.

That GTO has to be rare being a sedan.

Only 10 post coupe GTO's were built with the 455-HO engine. 3 were manual, 7 were auto. This falls into the rarest category of 1972 GTO.

Great story and congrats to him!

Might be the only 455HO you'll ever see with vent windows! Very Cool!
