I'm about 50 miles south of there. Google Pontiac dude, he has a speed shop in Brooksville FL.. He specializes in Pontiac engines, and used to drag race a 2nd Gen FB in that area. He did the rebuild of my SD engine, also a 68 GTO engine for a friend of mine. He probably could answer many of your questions. Look out for sink holes in that area!

Inverness has car show/cruise regularly.
Lots of the towns usually have something going on at least once a month. Orlando and Gainesville are probably closest tracks, Bradenton a little further south. (Lakeland if it is still open?)

The Villages has a big car show, every 3rd Saturday afternoon. Usually 150+ cars. Check out Cruise News. http://www.cruisenewsonline.com/
