what i see in the books and some paper work for my 65 is std,axl with 4brl is 3.23 and tri powers are 3.55(this is for 65)it list a number of ratios on codes 71A-71P gears from 2:56-4:30.
it shows the 71H 3.90-1 and 71J 4.30-1 as (reg.692,701: na.w/581) so i would think that the 701 code should have one of the two ratio, when matalic brakes are used.
but 709 is the performance axles and should have the same gears,
sorry all i can give you is from the books
hope this is what you where looking for

I recall the rear that came in my buddys new 348hp 3/2 4sp 1964GTO was a either a 3.23 or a 3.36? What I dont recall is if he ordered the 3.36 on purpose for street use instead of what ever was standard or if the 3.23/3/36 was the standard ratio in 1964 When he had the motor pulled to blueprint for NHRA we changed the rear to 3.55. The 3.55 was just right (performance wise) with the 14" tires

Early 64's had 3.55's, later they came with 3.23's. Mine came with 3.23's.

701 is the Safe-T-Track differential. 702 is the standard ratio gear set. 703 is the combination of 701 and 702--a Safe-T-Track diff with a standard ratio gearset. 701 + 704 = 705 (economy gearset) and 701 + 708 = 709 (performance gearset).

I was inspired by getting the GTO out for the first time this year for yesterday's car show.
