Default 98 formula 1LE option

I do the trans work for a dealer near my shop and saw on his lot a 98 formula WS6 and inquired about it. Its the service manangers car. pretty average looking but got to talking with him and he says its 1 of 20 made with the 1LE option. Its completely de-optioned with manual windows, manual seats etc etc. His license plate says 1of20 haha. any merit to this? curious of the value as well.

I don't about the 1 of 20, but I do remember those cars being available. No air conditioning too IIRC. I have no idea of the value, but I would venture to say that they are still well below what the cost new was.

wow 15. seems like one of those options that are rare only because no one wanted it! I sorta took a second look at the car out of respect and said a few "oh cools" but why the hell would you forgo power windows and AC!!! F that. I added power windows and locks to my 71.

The 1LE cars were designed for the SCCA type of races. They were pretty much a factory race car, less options=less weight=better performance. They were not intended to be like every other WS6 car. I have a 99 WS6 Formula that I bought new, wanted a 1LE car but couldn't get it ordered, had to settle for the extra power options. In 99 there were 175 WS6 Formulas 20 of those were 1LE cars.

Yep, basically a race suspension setup.

That and they were never advertised.

I remember one of the mags (Hot Rod?) telling about it, and they had a surge of orders but most weren't filled.

I think there were 16 made in '98 and 20 in '99 which I think was the last year for the 1LE option. The option started sometime in the mid /late '80's or early '90's I think, I tried to order one in '93 also but the dealer wouldn't do it. In the early years it was the power options delete ,suspension upgrades, aluminum driveshaft, different fuel tank and I believe even a radio delete. As it progressed through the years the 1LE upgrades actually became fewer. In '98/'99 you had a base radio, the no power options, and I believe only the suspension bushings were harder, everthing else suspension wise was the same as every other WS6 car. HPP had a few articles on them over the years, thats how I found out about the '93 models.

Fourth gen 1LE's came with AC, third gens no. First year for the RPO was 88, modern day COPO's in some circles.. Actually low mileage examples fetch window if not higher, but they are still under the radar(and might never been on it) because they were never promoted- Very cool piece of FBOD history IMO.

3rd gen 1LE TA's could be ordered with A/C - several are known to exist.

I prefer crank windows. Power windows are a PITA.

They are in a 4th gen. Changing the window motors every 6 months gets to be a PITA.

Didn't all of the Firehawks carry the 1LE option code?
