59 E-brake cable question
It appears that a previous owner cut my rear brake cable...on both sides.....about 12" forward...of each wheel..
So far....I've had no luck finding a replacement...... Found a listing for 1960 Bonneville....and would think it should be the same... I believe the length....was listed at 110".... Can anybody confirm that this will fit my 59 Bonneville? Thanks |

The "cable" is comprised of 3 pieces. 2 two short assemblies that go into the brake backing plate & this is likely very similar to others found in the '57-64 Pontiac/Olds era. Then the cable itself, which is 1 piece and loops up front to the "puller thingy" AKA the "equalizer"... Are you talking about this main cable?
You can always grab a string & measure but I bet the '59 & '60 Bonnie are pretty darn close. Good luck!

If you need a plain cable hardware stores sell cable. Buy what you need and make one if you can't find the correct one. You can cut it to the correct length and add ends to it or clamp it to the other cable(s).

1960 Bonneville cable should be the same.

The cables on my Safari were severed around that area on both sides. I chalked it up to the weak link in the design.

Green Hornet.....careful, the Bonneville rear cable is longer than the Catalina cable. Come to think of it, I just might have one that I got by mistake, and never returned. I'll look tomorrow......John

OK...had another look...underneath.....
Both sides are like this...... Does the replacement cable feed into the coiled strain relief? Also spotted this tag...on the diff......Does this mean it is a Safe T Track? |

The "coiled strain relief" is part of the assembly and you will need 2. Again, likely very similar, 57-64 Olds & Pontiac.
Wish I had a parts book, Since they are pretty useless as is, maybe remove one & measure it up. Happy hunting.

If 59 is basically like 60, look at the hubs on the end of the rear axles. If you are lucky enough to find two paint swabs on one of them that might indicate a safety trak unless the punkin has been changed or a safety trak axle was used as a replacement. For 1960 a yellow / green combo was a 3.08 safety trak for example.
