The finish blocking is completed and the body is bolted to the restored frame and is now ready for paint. Scott Tiemann and his staff already sprayed the Verdoro Green overspray to the bottom side. Paint next week...woo hoo!

Dan broke in the cam (068) in the 428HO and is scheduled for the dyno in a couple weeks. The final body sanding is all but done now and the paint is sprayed next week! The instrument panel gauges were rebuilt/restored, so connecting of all the finished sub assemblies is the next big push.
Any guesses what a 428HO will make on the dyno? The engine is .030" over, 068 cam & factory lifters, stock un-ported heads with10.75 actual compression, factory iron intake & Q-jet, factory long branch exhaust manifolds with 2.5" mandrel headpipes from Pypes. Dennis |

The 428HO was factory rated at 390 HP and 465 lb-ft in 1968. My guess is it will make at least that on the dyno.

My guess will be -10-15hp on the first run, and with some tuning maybe right at 405.
On a side note, it almost seems impossible to find dyno numbers on the 068 cams. Does anyone have any links to any tests? Just out of curiousity's sake. Other than the RAIV, I'm not one who thinks Pontiac's numbers were all that far off from what they advertised. |

The 428HO is scheduled for the dyno this Tuesday! The cam has been broken in on the test stand and now we'll find out how much power the pure stock motor makes...Dan dynoed another stock 428 HO (69) a couple months ago with a 068 cam as well, but with 10.2 to 1 compression and it made 415 hp and 495 tq...so, were hoping for 425 hp and 510 lb.ft. Dan is going to dyno it with the RA exhaust manifolds rather than the long branches, so will give up a few hp and tq.

The doors were being installed and aligned getting ready for paint next week. Everything is coming together quickly now...after what seemed like an eternity of waiting.

Looking good. Are those the final wheels and tires you'll be using? It would be fun to have some mags and different tires (maybe even some cheater slicks for the rear) to swap on occasionally - like what they call a 'day two' modification. Then, the steel wheels and dog dish caps can go back on when desired.

Dennis, I just found this thread and read all 169 posts! That took quite a while. I am just blown away with the fact that you guys have put such a monumental effort into this car. It's just wonderful. The best part about it to me is you will have this car out and on the race track . It's just fantastic. I can't wait to see it in person. 44 years ago, it was a 1968 Bonneville that changed my automotive trajectory forever. When my highly modified 69 Camaro was blown into the weeds by my friends's stock 68 Bonneville, I sold off the one and only Chevy I ever owned and never looked back. I am so happy a concourse quality restoration on a factory hot rod like this ended up in your hands. Very, very cool.

You inspired me to go back and read the thread from the beginning again - I had forgotten a lot of the early posts.

The body painting starts today and we can't wait to see the results. Scott Tiemann and his staff at Supercar Specialties are doing a great job of the body work. The interior is the next major hurdle since these cars are a hybrid of both old and newer details and components. Fortunately, for Dan, the car was so complete and original and not as bad as it initially looked. We'll be posting the progress pictures as soon as they are available. Dennis |

Around 1976, I bought my girlfriend a 67 Ventura 2-door coupe. 400 4BBL, Posi rear, console, turbo 400 and a factory hood tach. Didn't seem super special for the $300.00 I paid at the time for it in good running condition. Now, that car would be a cool, fairly low cost cruiser.

The engine dyno is delayed until tomorrow...the dyno was needed for a racer for this weekends race, so Dan graciously offered his session. Sorry for the suspense!
