Default 69 gto dash wood panel re chrome the plastic edges

hi

was curious , i'm in canada trying to find a place that still does this type of plating work.

i do see that ames sell this:

https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/De...A&web_access=Y

Molotow - Liquid Chrome Marker

I assume this product works which is why they are selling it.

https://www.deserres.ca/en/molchrome

Has anyone tried this before?

Have not tried that product or seen any posts about it. Looks interesting.

If you have not seen this thread, take a look:

My son put me on to the marker. He bought it from Hobby Lobby to do the chrome trim on model cars. Just finished trimming my Z-28 dash. It looks close to chrome. I'm happy with it.

Awesome, thanks for sharing...

I'm sold on it.... did you wash it and scuff off all the old stuff off or just go right over all the old stuff?

No scuffing. Wiped lightly with thinner and applied. Marker comes in different widths. 1mm was too narrow and had to make several strokes for coverage. 2mm worked better.

Big Bear,

Do the marker results look like they will be as good as paint, or do you think it will rub off easily?

I still have the edges of my dash and vents to do and bought the Spaz Stix paint, but disassembly, masking, and unmasking to do the edges seems like a real PITA.

I agree 2mm is what I was going to buy. Mine has previous paint job . I'm going to take the wood sticker off then lightly use isopropyl around all the edges to clean off all the old plated chrome. I will then give it a nice spray of the black. The edges leading up to where the pen chrome is applied will look nice if they are black, I figure. I hope ... I have a couple test pieces. Hopefully the chrome pen over the black paint ( it was mentioned in that long article that black paint helped with the spaz stik, who knows if it does with this. I just wan the edge on inside to be black. The very top edge is actually chrome plated as well I noticed!

Anyway if someone things don't bother with black, I'm not opposed to following their lead.

If rubbed on it will dull to silver look but not chipping off. I did it free hand taking long strokes. No masking. When liquid it flows and stays on the raised lip. If it does'nt turn out the first time have a cloth dampened with thinner ready, wipe it off and try again.

Hi,

Well the job got done . That pen is awesome, affordable and it works. i decided not to use black anywhere.

I used some fine sand paper to take off the old chrome. That was a mistake , it ended up creating some lines and was too low of a grit. Either leave the old stuff on or I maybe use some sort of liquid remover stuff? Wish I knew but still turned out pretty good, I just multiple coats.

It's tricky to use the pen and run it down the sides but long strokes seemed to work ok.

I bought some new stickers . the fit is about 99% good. a little short in places.

over all the chrome also works on the other chrome pieces, like lighter or lights quite well. it's a good touch up.

you can see my old set verses the new restored set.

any way that concludes my project!!!
