Brake Pedal Mount details
Does anyone know what color the brake pedal mount is supposed to be ... other than rusty bare metal? The one I'm working appears to have been mostly bare metal, some Red Oxide primer (like used in the interior) and even some weak ass galvanizing.
Below are some photos of various stampings I found on the pedal mount and pedal. I'm fascinated by this stuff Each piece with it's own little history buried under rust and paint. And as per usual for me, I carefully disassemble, blast, polish, take pictures ... and then look into my GTO and realize ... yes I'm working on a spare, the original is still in the shell and it better condition than the one I'm working on. More product for ebay I guess (This was from an Baltimore Lemans) |

The mount was bare metal from the factory so they ended up rusty. I believe I painted mine with a steel paint from eastwood.

I'd have to look but I thought they were dip painted chassis black but only the lower part.

My understanding is the pedals themselves were dip painted black. I was referring to the bracket/mount the pedals mount to - that was bare steel.

Bare steel with the pedals dip painted part way up. Same goes for the parking brake pedal.

I always soaked the bracket in evaporust or something similar to achieve a bare metal look.
Then coat it with fluid film or some other clear coating to keep from rusting again. For the pedals you can cut a anti freeze jug top off and dip the bottom portion of each pedal to achieve the look the factory did. I use black epoxy for that |

Was the column support bracket semi gloss black or did it have some interior overspray?
