Default Electric fan and relays

I have a two speed electric fan on the Trans Am. The fan stopped working yesterday. I bypassed the relays and put current directly to the fan to see if maybe the relays were the problem but the fan was still 'dead'. It would seem that the fan is the problem. However, when I put the 2-pole switch in either the high or low speed setting, both relays are activated. In the off position no current is on the output side of the relay as you would expect, but how can the switch be energizing both relays in either the high or low speed position? Maybe I have two issues but this seems unlikely that both would occur at the same time. Help!

I found the problem. When I installed this 2-speed fan some 13 years ago I had to add 3 lengths of #10 wire to the existing pigtail to get the length I needed. The two + wires were fine but the ground wire was corroded/burnt into at the two splices. Once I put in new wires all was well, including the relays and switch. Amazing the problems a bad or non-existent ground can cause.
