Default rally clock wiring harness question

I am wiring some of my dash and I have gotten to the rally clock . I have a new harness for the clock. I don't understand how it works as the 2 instrument lights and the clock power all seem to connect that seems to me then that the bulbs would always be on if the clock was powered up. Could someone please explain how it works? Thanks Ken

Those wires are suppose to be seperate.

Orange to battery supply and gray to gray dash light power.

Look closer

Default Clock wiring

These 3 photos show the original instructions from a dealer installed dash clock accessory kit.

This clock is from the year 1970-72; & fits all Pontiac A body cars, as you can see the orange (battery + wire) is separate from the night time dash lamp harness.

The battery + power wire for a GM in dash clock would be solid orange or it may also be orange with a black stripe. In this kit the 2 night time light wires are grey.
