Now that I got my car back together and on the road it seems to be running on the rich side, Being I grew up with fuel injection im used to reading a screen and numbers vs reading plugs. Im wondering if anybody has invested in an A/F meter that would be interested in renting it out for a week or two.

Reading plugs is for drag racers that only run at wide open throttle.

This is the best $200 investment you can make for tuning in a carb.

I was more or less looking at something along the lines of the Innovate LM2. I don't really want another gauge in my car, or do you just use it for tuning purposes then remove it when done?

I've got an A/F gauge I'd rent for $100. You don't even have to return it. I had it on my car for about 3 drives and then I went FI so I didn't need it anymore.

I also agree that $200 is a sound investment to be sure you aren't leaning out your expensive motor.

The only thing I would add, is that once you get it set and you are satisfied with the tune, don't stare at the gauge. It will do some wacky stuff from time to time, and you will drive yourself nuts. Speaking only here about cruise and especially idle. WOT pay attention to it.

Sometimes Ill drive 5 miles to the store and on the same drive back Ill get a point different and start yelling at the gauge. Realistically it probably has to do with the electric choke and all. I know some guys that set it where they want and then remove the gauge.

I agree with couple of the above comments, its worth the money . I use a AEM unit . Nice to get a baseline etc but yes don’t totally rely on it.

Innovative makes a small 2 1/8" AFR gauge for $150. I run that in one car. It even comes with a serial port to plug into a lap top, and is capable of datalogging. It's about the cheapest way to get into a wide band deal, and if you only have one car to use it on, works great. All the PS and FAST guys use them. For a little more money it comes with dual sensors and you can tune both banks simultaneously.

I also have one of Innovatives LM-1 handhelds that I've used for 20 years to tune multiple cars. The cost to get into one of these is a bit more, but it's perfect if you plan to tune more than one car. Installs and removes easily, powered by the cig lighter.

They are worthwhile investments for any car guru.

Bob, I am interested in going EFI. How do you like the Holley sniper unit?
