Default 69 gto in dash tach / clock - light question

Hi,

Curious owners who have the in dash tachometer or clock from a 69 gto and the tach or clock for sure if from that year car, is there "3" lights on the rear of these parts, via the grey wire light assembly?

For some reason mine has 2 light sockets but the third grey wire looks "snipped off" at that end. why i ask

If anyone was to buy the light assembly for clock or tach, it only has two sockets!

as seen below.

so just wondering why there is a third grey wire on mine.

Only two lights. That third opening or (snip off) is for additional lighting if required elsewhere.

3rd gray wire goes to the lighter illumination bulb ...........
it piggybacks on the lighter outer housing on the top

or it could be used for

the optional sylvania illuminted 4 speed gear shift knob ...

After carefully looking. The 2 Wire clock/tach wire assembly only has two lights. I was wrong the "3rd" grey wire is just snipped off. It routes back to fuse box so don't know what that was for really????

There is an existing grey wire that routes in from fuse box that goes to cig lighter light. Not sure how i check that to see if it even works, turn off all lights and turn switch and see? I never even thought of buying another one of those.. For such a non used item I'm not gonna bother figuring that one out. more important things to fix.

just to let you know my friend has'same year gto, no a/c and the same 3rd grey wire but his wasn't snipped off. it was right by the rally clock area, his wire has the , what i think , is the courtesy light socket and bulb but both of us do not know where it actually goes and mount too.

does anyone know? it must be right below the cig lighter or something like that?

there is the pic of the light...

Grey dash light wires wouldn't be a courtesy light.

Don't know if it was an option on 69 GTO but some cars had a grey wire that went up the turn signal harness for lighted ignition switch. Another IDK on the GTO, but some column shift cars had the shift indicator on top of the column.

Any chance your friends spare bulb is for a factory radio? IDK just thinking about what else might need lit up besides cig lighter and heater controls.

Hey quick-silver

Well this makes it back to a mystery then for my snipped wire and what friend's bulb system is about.

I'm wondering if he some other "Rally clock" wiring system from another car that works which had that bulb? Gotta wonder?

I'm not sure how that bulb system would reach over and mount to the radio or in the radio. I've looked at my own AM radio many times and never saw a bulb insertion point.

But yah I guess at end of day the orange/white wire is essentially the courtesy light "circuit' , no matter what.

I'm surprised no one has any info on them. Maybe it was an option you had to order? I just know my friend's 68 firebird has one on each side of the front and when you opened the doors the floor mats had tone's of light on them, it looked wicked.

The radio light inserts at the top front center of the radio.....but that bulb looks kinda large for radio light. Does the bulb light up when the headlights are turned on? Is the original radio still in the car?

The radio light literally fits in the radio housing? I don't know if his radio decodes to 69 gto am radio. i know mine ends is 455 which i believe is 69 gto am radio. i always thought the radio had it's own internal light and not something that is normally serviceable unless you open the damn thing up.

I've attached a picture of a radio i had, which could be the same one, i had it saved.

I will ask my friend about when the light turns on, when i see the pic it almost looks like a signal light bulb?? good eye.

I'll report back when i hear from him.

Ok, so i went under friends car. from his fuse box as you know all wires, if not most all route over along the cluster and makes it's way across dash. one of the wires over near the clock is a black spade male clip, attached to the clip (literally built into the clip) is the wire going down to metal housing with bulb. so it's a factory.

have a look.. there are 3 pictures.

now i found a grey wire on it's own which we are almost 100% sure it goes to lighter housing but i will save that for a post later on.

any idea on what a black spade with bulb wire coming out could be?
