I picked up a '77 Trans Am (or Formula) 400 engine with a 'Y6' stamped code. The 'Y6' was the Hi-perf 200 horse version with an automatic trans. I'm wondering if someone out there has this Firebird and would like to have their original matching engine back. The partial VIN stamped is 27N173380.

If I don't get any responses in the next few weeks, you can look for it on eBay. It's completely overhauled, balanced and blueprinted with a few upgrades to bring it up to about a 350 horse level.

Wondering out-loud how often this will become a future trend w 77-79 w72's...I've got a complete '78 Auto W72 removed to be replaced by a "Rock & Roll" "Performance engine" by a military owner who moved from panhandle TX to VA military duty.
Wonder if the "buyers remorse" or "what did I do?" ever set in when realization (too late?) value of #s matching engine.

Could be a trend worth watching...think of the many more that became victim of "LS" swaps...specific to the W72's restoration and seeking matching "born with" engine.

FYI Ric - he wouldn't answer my same Q about motor he was selling last yr FWIW.

Edit: I see the "N" for "Norwood" in your vin #27N173380 TA or Formy only?

i have a 74 SD car that when the guy bought it, he had them pull the Crappy low compression SD out and put in a high compression 1970 455 that had more power. ( got to love chevy guys)

I have a complete 74 SD engine pulled from another SD car from the same city, but sadly the vins don't match, will be using it any way.

A lot of guys back in the day didn't really understand what the SD 455 was so they pulled them out because they thought it wasn't fast enough & put in a different engine. There was a guy in the next town over that did the same thing & the SD 455 was bought for $ 300.00 with almost no miles on it. The buyer got a great deal but the seller was just a dummy.

Yea threw away some 409 exhaust manifolds when I added headers($500-600 now) and a block that had a dinged cylinder that could have bee sleeved back in high school. Blocks now go for $2K!

I have a potential for the opposite -I ordered my 78 with a W72 but missed the deadline and found a X7 code motor a few years back for $150. As well as the dealer forgot to check the WS6 box. So I have all the WS66 stff on it and the X7 on a stand if I ever want to make it like I ordered it!
