What do you use to get that beautiful car up on the blocks?
Are you driving your car at all? Like me, I'm thinking all your attention is going to your new place still.

Yes, feeling pretty settled in now. We both really love it here too. Even though our house was in great shape when we bought it, it's amazing how much time and thought it takes to make it your own. We still have plans for a putting in a pavilion in the back yard and to put in a bar area in down in the basement but we're putting those projects off until next year.

We've completed the lounge area I wanted in the back of the workshop. I really don't have any other plans for it at this time. I've yet to take final photos of what we all did for that but I'll post a couple when I do.

Pretty simple how I raise the car up on the blocks:

I bought the tent for doing things like metal grinding, spray can spraying and for wood cutting or sanding. Works pretty well for containing dust and overspray. Still have to open the doors to flush paint fumes of course.

Thanks!
Yeah, installing an exhaust system yourself is a lot of work. I give the Magnaflow exhaust kit high marks for the design though. Btw, the kit didn't come with downpipes. They are from Pypes. The Magnaflow kit is designed to all clamp together with band clamps that they provide you but I prefer to weld all the joints except for the tailpipes. Someone more anal than me would use a tig and stainless rod though. Since I used a mig and steel wire, I had to paint the welds to keep them from rusting.

Started the car yesterday and took a couple of short videos. I was going to take the car for a spin but in prep for that I aired up the tires and checked the air in the air bags and one of them isn't holding air. I didn't have time to investigate that.

Very happy. Much more quiet now and no evidence of drone with these Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. Sill a good rumble at the back of the car at idle. The second video is inside with the doors closed and windows up.

I thought maybe you did it with floor jacks but I was having a hard time picturing a car that nice, jacked up that high on a floor jack, seems kind of scary, like jacking up a Ferrari with a bumper jack

The tent is a great idea, way too often I have a grinder in my hand, and I look around like I'm about to tell a bad joke, and say what the heck and start grinding.

Yep, my car gets looked at a lot, but not driven much, still have considerable polishing to do. I have to break the ice with it, take a drive 15 miles away and get some non-ethanol fuel. If I was 20 years old again I'd hop in it and drive across the country without thinking twice.

Our place is starting to feel like home, at least the property and the shop, I don't want to the old house to feel to homey, cause I want to look forward to the day we tear it down.

Your car sounds perfect with the new exhaust.

That looks really good - exhaust work is vexing at times.

Those videos sound great! Glad you're happy!

I'm curious if the Magnaflow had that or a similar muffler as an option when you ordered it?

Just clicking around, it appears Pypes will configure a "kit" with multiple muffler options.

Does anyone sell a "kit" with those same Dynomax 20" mufflers?

Magnaflow does not. They have some larger mufflers but they are still straight-thru designs. But no muffler choice with the kit. You get the 14" oval straight thru mufflers. I don't see you can buy the kit without mufflers either. I didn't try to call them and see if they would sell them separately. Could be worth a try.
Pypes has kits but their exhaust pipes don't tuck up to the body as nicely as the Magnaflow do.
Dynamax doesn't sell kits for A body cars of this vintage.
If you don't like loud, I think the best option is to buy the Magnaflow kit, sell the mufflers that it comes with and buy the Dynamax Super Turbos. I was willing to try the mufflers that came kit but it caused me some extra work after deciding couldn't live with the noise.

Thanks, noted!

Just curious - were you welding stainless with your mig? stainless to aluminized tubing?

At some point I need to get rid of glass packs and stupid huge exhaust tips, but not there yet.

Summit, Jegs, Pypes, all offer kits without mufflers that cost less than best, but the devil is always in the details. What struck me about your swap was having to modify tubing sizes to join with others, along with changes needed for hangers. This is the stuff that is hard to predict by clicking.

Another project that could easily turn into a whirly.... so thanks for posting your example. Seems the best idea is to follow someone else's exact solution! or pay a pro.. or both..

Mike

Yes, in some places I did weld stainless to aluminized tubing with my mig using steel wire. Aluminized pipe is just steel with a coating. I sand off the coating about 1/4" back from the end before I weld to it.
Did you notice the 2 1/2" ID sleeves I used to join the pipes? Works well with a clamp in the mock up and hold after fit is correct then tack weld so nothing can move when removing to get access for welding all the way around.

It does appear that you, like me don't want loud.
I would be interested to hear if you decide to call Magnaflow and see if they will sell you the 15894 kit without the mufflers. Then all you would need to do is buy the Pypes downpipes and the Super Hemi Turbos.

Thanks again

Yes, I saw the sleeves... lots of work but I understand how they allowed you to align with confidence in addition to making stronger joints than if you had just butted the two tubing ends.

The complexity I didn't follow was the need to modify the mufflers. I get the hangers, but why the tubing changes?

As to me, I need the lowest cost everything, so am unlikely to pay for stainless tubing.

I do like the sound of yours, so think the longer turbo mufflers make sense.

Seems the basic kit from Pypes or similar would be OK for me. As to alignment, I don't know how I want the tailpipes so that's ahead of me.

All tucked away for reference, thanks again.

Got my airbag issue fixed. A tube had gotten against the tailpipe. Re-routed and spliced. But weather coming in so won't take the car for a spin for a few days. Supposed to snow the next 2 days.
Here's a few photos of the lounge area in the back of the Workshop my wife and I created:

Oh man, that is sweet, my shop is very sorely in need of such an area.

I'm guessing the soda machine works too.

I won't have water for probably another year

I would think with all the rain you've had lately, water wouldn't be a problem

Yes it does work. It will freeze the drinks if it's turned up too high. Room inside to use as a refrigerator too. I don't run it all the time. I will sure stock it and turn it on when we have guests though.

Btw, I did a thread on the floor epoxy on the Garage Journal site:
