I have one of these shields as well. Mine came off of a 1970 455 YH engine from a full size Bonneville. The original intake on the engine was a 9799068 the same on the RAIII engines. I am assuming this is a RAIII shield but I have not had confirmation of this. But from the pics mine is identical to the one at the top of this post.

Anyone else have one, or an idea what is is from????

I just found another one on eBay. It looks like mine and wernacs. The listing says it is for a later model 400???

Anyone have a definitive answer?

I think that may be the D-port non-RA exhaust manifold style shroud. My old TA had what I believe was its original shroud when I bought it, and it did not look quite like that. I've attached a few pics -- hard to see but if you look at some of the details I think you'll see it's different.

Of course, it's entirely possible mine had the wrong one on it, too...

Ransom and Keith are right, they are D-port shields. The d-port shield has a c-shaped notch or scallop on the right edge for postive battery cable clearance. The ram air cars routed the positve cable in front of the head and under the left manifold, so there is no notch. Here is a picture of an SD shield, RAIIIs look very similar.

I've seen quite a few 455HOs in 1971 Trans Ams for sale, I guess mostly on eBay, that have one of these more molded shaped shields installed like you guys are picturing. I've attached a couple of pics of the correct heat shield for the 455HO motor just for reference. It is made up of three separate pieces spot welded together. Much more angular and squared off than the others above. I counted no less than 15 spot welds on the loose one. The loose one is from my dissassembled Norwood car and I also snapped a shot of the one on my assembled Van Nuys car.

How do I make these pics so it just shows the thumbnails. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Yeah, even the reproduction HO shields are listed for almost $100. Not sure of quality.
