Strong street motor. Heads ported? Intake?

That is a very popular combo from the pre aluminum head days. Get better rods and a modern cam profile. There is no reason to use stock rods anymore. You can get better ones for what it costs to redo old rods with machining and bolts. You are going to get lots of opinions... good luck!

I don’t like the CC 995 springs due to the flat wire damper in them.
I prefer Crower 68407 springs which are a duel coil spring like the factory ones.

Crower 87408 retainers should be used with them.

By the time you get done rebuilding the factory rods you will really not have gained much strength and spent just about the same amount of bucks as investing in new stronger rods.

Also since due to the new forged pistons you will need to rebalance the motor, then the far lighter aftermarket rods will allow the motor to rev up a good amount faster.

You should take advantage of that and the fact that the bearing and block loads will be less.

My buddy Goodman suggests the rods be replaced with new forgings.

I am using those springs with the Crower 60919 cam and it seems to be pretty good

Great street combination, should run real well with a good efficient 2800-3000 stall converter and 3.23-3.42 gears

Aside from the 1.6 roller rockers, I have this exact combo in my 67 GTO currently. Works well with Manual trans.

My suggestion would be a Performer RPM manifold to top it off if hood clearance is not an issue.

Enjoy!

Try these rods, stronger than stock and plenty strong for your build.

So, did you build it exactly like that? I have a similar setup and am debating what parts to go with.
