I want to clean the inside of my oil breather cap on my ‘65. 389
Anybody ever do that?
If so how did you do it, if at all?

Grab a flashlight and peer inside, the AC breather's
guts are nothing more than a piece of coarse steel
wool. Use whatever solvent you have on hand?

Can you use ATF? Sure. But it ain't right, best to just
use proper power steering fluid. Apparently pumps
live longer. Dunno.

Kerosene or even diesel fuel work well for cleaning the breather. Please don't use gasolene.

Mineral Spirits... it's what I have in my parts washer.

Inspect the steel wool inside the cap carefully. I found the steel wool was a bit rusty and shedding bits. I did not want that stuff contaminating a fresh build so I dug it all out and flushed thoroughly with parts cleaner. I now have an empty but correct looking breather cap.
