Sorry guys, I was trying to ask who , in the PY world, had thoughts on what co. made the best thermostat. I was having trouble getting the message out and just quit. I didn't realize it had posted.
So who has the best thermostat?

I am presuming this info wanted for an auto, or do you need it for a home a/c unit?

I like Stant Super Stats for the following reasons:

SuperStat exceeds OE performance
Contains larger piston and springs that OE themostats
Better flow control than OE themostats
Stainless steel flange for longer life and strength

Out of 1000 reviews by costumers 985 people gave it 5 stars.

You might get a bad one but the odds are really small on that happening.

I go by Performance History, not by Hype.

Tom V.

I still drill three .100" holes in the metal divider to remove trapped air under the thermostat.

The thermostat is one of the least failure-prone items on our cars. It seems that oil filters and thermostats show up on this forum more often than most other components, both often blamed for problems that may or may not be due to a malfunction. .

I use Stant or AC Delco thermostats on my cars and on the Tripowers I restore. Note that nearly all of them are made in India, Israel, Mexico, or elsewhere. I have yet to experience a failure except on my daily drivers after 100,000 plus miles.

I used to sell Robert Shaw thermostats, don't remember a return due to failure. THe premium RS thermostat looks much different ftom the one on Tom V.'s picture.

I had the 283, out of my first car rebuilt by my engine builder in the small town I lived in , in SE Oklahoma, in early 80's. Spent $$$ on all the proper things, honing with torque plate, resized rods, new rod bolts (still can't believe the small journal SBC's used 11/32 rod bolts), and what-not...
Got to have it dyno'd in lat 1983, on his relatively new Super-Flo 800 dyno.....

Point...I bought a BRAND NEW AC Delco thermostat for the engine, you know, the best of ALL parts....He was warmomg the engine up on the dyno, while breaking in the cam. The dad gum thermostat NEVER would open. Glad that happened on the dyno...He put a Robert Shaw in it, worked perfect...

I use a 180 F Milodon all brass units and have had excellent results. My '72 LeMans with a 455 RAIV cam, 9:1 CR with a stock 3 core radiator (original 350 2 bbl car) ran 170 F today cruising in 92 F weather. I use a 7 blade flex fan, using the factory 7 blade AC fan with a Hayden clutch it would get up to 210 F on a similar day. I'm thinking of using a 190 F T-stat.

I always drill a 1/8" hole in them, done it forever.
The same 160 deg thermostat that I bought in the 80s is still in my 455. I will use it in the brand new 461 High Port engine. I know it works.
