Default 63 Rear Shock Option

If your looking for a less expensive and easily obtainable rear shock replacement for your 63, this is what I did............

I bought 4 shock mount studs from Speedway Motors.......Part # 91036096 $4

And two Monroe 32314 Monro-Matic Plus Shock Absorber. These shocks have the same compressed and expanded measurements. I got mine from Amazon for $22.

This is how they fit.

Default Which shocks are the best fit?

Searching for some new rear shocks on my 63. Doing a search on this site gave me many choices for rear shocks.

KYB KG5538 & KG4161
Monroe 32314 & 31000 & 5760
Napa 82047
Rare Parts RP51282

Now, what is the best choice? Anyone favor one over another?

Thanks,

KGB is a much better shock than Monroe or NAPA house brand. Rare parts likely is just a private label. Wonder who makes them??

Rare parts are the most expensive. Here is what I've found so far.

Brand.................#...............Compressed.. ...Extended....Travel........Price (ea)
KYB.................KG5538.............12.17...... .................19.25............7.09............ ....$23
KYB.................KG4161...............12.63.... .................19.40............6.82............ ...$35
KYB.................KG5491..............12.52..... ................19.41.............6.89............ ....$35
RareParts...RP51282............12.50.............. .......20.32...........7.82.................$96
Monroe..........31000................12.00........ .............19.50...........7.50................. $18
Monroe..........32207................11.25........ ...............17.87............6.62.............. ..$27
Monroe..........32293................11.97........ ...............19.66............7.69.............. ..$25

Napa 82047 and Monroe 32314 are no longer available that I can find. And Monroe 5760 is much longer and one end is a different hole size.
