I'm wanting to recover my center console for my 70 lemans, are there any pointers or suggestions.
Thanks for any help.

Finally assembling mine that I had recovered. I also had the inserts hydro dipped along with the dash with the wood grain. One of the slight issues with assembly is the seams are to thick for the inserts to fit easy, would work around that a little better. Also the insert for storage fits tight with the seams and the vinyl on the sides of the cavity and will trip to make fit better.

Paul , What material did you use? It looks real nice. I'm finishing mine with fabric I had ordered from legendary (madrid black). I have put my seams on the top outer edge to help with the fit. All the angles are a pain however. I'm hoping it will be picture quality so I can post in a few days.

Nice job on the console. I purchased material for my gold console quite a while ago. I realized the new material is thicker than what I removed from the original console. Like it has an enforced backing, unlike the original console material that was pretty thin and could be formed more easily with heating, etc. Pretty sure this is the same thin material used to recover dashes also. Is this vinyl material available?

Paul E - You had that covered correct? I've never seen anyone get it that good doing it at home. I always figured they are done with vacuum just like dashes are.

I had a quote one time to have a console recovered and it was like $850. And that was a number of years ago. It was a dash place, forget which one, but it wasn't Just Dashes.

No where close to that price. About $1,300 for front, back seats, rear convertible sides covered and console labor only I supplied Legendary covers and foam as well as painted seat frames. The console covering is with standard vinyl with backing. Have heard you can remove the backing but I did not try. I did take to a good shop and they covered it. Thought nothing to loose. Factory cover was ripped. I am happy with it as not many good options. I did think about Rocker chip guard and paint satin black but happy I covered instead as that could have really turned out bad.

Just dashes did my 4 speed console, $400 for the console and $100 for the lid. Sent it out just before Memorial Day weekend, got it back late October

Wow, $400 is a deal IMO, I may do that. You can do a repop lid and save $100. Wonder if it's the same for an auto console? It has been a while since I shopped that. Shame, I was recently in the market for one. Maybe I will send in my spare and have it done.

Yeah, no way can you just glue material on a console, one good hot summer with the windows up, and that stuff is going to lift due to the glue. I can't think of a glue that will hold it. I would think it would have to be done with seams, but maybe there material out now that can be shaped better, maybe with heat or something.

Like I said, it's a vacuum process to do a console, just like a dash, it's like having someone glue material on a dash kinda. just ain't gonna work, or not for long anyway. And last I heard, Legendary doesn't have a vacuum machine, they have done stuff for me in the past.

Maybe I'm wrong, have old school thinking or something, and it can be done. I hope that's true, because that also provides different paths for doing a dash.

I would love to have some rear plastic interior panels (rear quarter & kick panels too) for my 2nd gen 'bird done with material, if someone has a vacuum machine that can do that, I would jump on it.

You can save $100 only if the repro lid is free. If your choice is $75 or so plus shipping for the repro lid with the button like mine, you are gonna be pretty close to the $100 to have just dashes do your original. I would have the original done again if I were to do another one. They did a great job.
