You will need to cut the bottom line and hook the hose from the cut line to into the new cooler and then back out into the bottom of the radiator. This meathod seems to work the best for cooling.

I didn't cut anything. I bent up some new lines, 1 with a male fitting the other female. I connected the existing line to 1 of these and the other line to the rad. Of course the other ends of these lines go to the cooler. I'm using an aluminum tube cooler from a K-car, fits perfect across the front of the rad opening and attaches to the cradle on either side.

Mine is connected so the fluid goes thru the cooler then the rad. That is what my tranny guy suggested. I believe I'm using the top line. Can post a pic when I get home. Came out looking real clean and works well. I run a 3k stall converter and it's a street car. Alan

has anyone experimented with only having the outside cooler and not going through the radiator?

It wont cool as good. On every cooler, they recommend using the radiator with their cooler. They are the experts.

Big advantage of using the radiator where I live is it warms up the fluid before it goes back to the pan. Probably not a problem in warmer climates. That's how I get away with running such a big cooler. Make sure you keep an air spce between the rad and cooler. DONOT fasten the trans cooler to the rad.

I think that it should be against the radiator or you will not have any air flow at idle.

Standard ATF starts to break down in 20 minutes at 80 MPH. I havent used a radiator cooler for 20yrs in my Birds. I rarely drive them in cold weather. Never had a problem. Mount it in RH front of radiator. Try to match the fins in both for good airflow.
