Another question from a "newbie". What literature (and sources) are good for guidance on 1st gen Firebird projects? The projects I intend to do include: horn not working, heater blower not working, door hinges sagging, no door detent, new heater core (currently bypassed), restore AC (condenser there but nothing else), swap out 4:11 rear end for something stock, and restore windshield washer (everything missing). There are other things that are just plain missing, such as all heater ducting, shoulder harness buckles, and rear marker lights. I need some refernece material to know what I'm missing. I was planing to get a Chilton's manual and a Fisher body manual, but I suspect there are others I'll need. I did a lot with a Camaro 25 years ago, but this is my 1st time diving into an older car since then. Any diredtion from some seasoned pros would be greatly appreciated.

I`d go to FGF`s site (67-69 Firebirds ONLY)http://www.firstgenfirebird.org/ find tech on classifieds section... , sign up on that site AND the L list http://firstgenfirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html
Several people HERE are on that site too, but its larger when it comes to Firebirds, this site is larger when it comes to all Pontiacs, all years...fgf is 67-69 Bird specific.. other than that , litterature wise , Id get the service and body manuals, can usually be found on EBay ,reprints for about $20-25 ea, dont bother with the Chiltons...not enough Firebird specific, even if it states so...

Your first choice should probably be the factory manuals, there are a couple of websites that list some of the manuals online. Hinges, horn, etc would be the same as a camaro, there are several camaro retore books that are pretty good. The site Bjorn mentioned has more traffic than this one, very good place to start.
HEre is one link: http://www.1968firebird.org/index.html I have a few more on my home computer. |
