GTOLIB, can you post a picture of the cowl tag?

Would be easier to tell how to decipher it.

Getting into the cowl or under the carpet may be the only way to see...and even then, you won't know what it was called. Maybe a non Pontiac green?
Is it a vinyl top car? Perhaps it's special paint code '1' and the '2' is for a black vinyl top. I do believe that I've read over the years that '1' is at least one of the markings used on the data plate to indicate special paint.
EDIT-See post #18 in this thread for example of a car with a '1' to indicate special paint and another '1' to indicate white vinyl top..

thanks guys ,I understand and read this thread several times.
but I guess my question is if it's special paint could it still be Verdoro Green but a different tint or a different year ,,,,or even a different div. LIke I said in the past post this car has been paint 3 times in it's life ,there is a dark green under alot of areas but could the past painter been that good ,, it could have been Pink LOL someone really hated it
I know it's a tough question, It could stay the green it is anyway . Just the itch to know .

Hello all, I just wanted to add an update to this thread pertaining to my Orange 1968 GTO convertible discussed herein.

It's been a number of years since I posted asking for information about the color on my car and so forth.

I haven't checked in for quite some time now, but have been keeping vigil for any more information or cars that may turn up sporting the rare spring colors
.
Since I'm now getting some urge to do something about resurrecting my old car again, is it safe that can I now assume that it's a one of a kind, sole survivor?

The only remaining 1968 GTO Convertible. factory painted Orange car.

Well, I think that you can safely say the only known one and invite others to find another...then they do the work for you.
I think it's an awesome 'some kind of orange' car from the factory and I'd love to see it finished. I'd paint it Carnival.

Cool thread, I read though most of it, but no doubt missed a bunch. I had heard about non-standard colors getting though & if I remember right all custom colors had to be endura delete because of the painting process, correct? Guessing that was covered in one of the many posts here, but just wanted to confirm.

How cool would it be to have that car restored & everyone come tell you it never came that way & show them the build sheet.
How much of the car is still original? Drivetrain wise & numbers stuff?

You don't know that.

Isn't having a car in a color that elicits "They didn't build it in that color!" comments enough?

Hey guys, just got in to this thread. Currently restoring a 68 HO Windward Blue. Spring color with the chrome bumper. What confirmed my color was the build sheet. Thankfully the guy I bought it from had it as well as the original window sticker. Thing I got out of researching these spring colors were that they contained a little more metallic and had a color shift to them in different light. Windward Blue in the sun gives off a tealish color while at night it showed more darker blue. The carnival red, imo, shifts orangy to red. Just my thoughts. I ordered some rattle cans from a online provider and painted some color cards which were almost an identical match to the original color on the cowl. PS the car was repainted in the seventies a stock color and a close match but not it. Posting pics if it helps.

Boy that's a pretty color. It's giving Aegena Blue a run for its money for my favorite '68 color.
