1967 gto ashtray trim
So today I was checking my ashtray and cigarette lighter lights and I noticed I was missing the ashtray trim . My car is a early 67.....11-c-66 built . Maybe my car didn’t come with that piece being a early car ? It looks like the screws have never been off where the trim would mount . Oh btw the original bulbs still work .
The picture of the trim piece is not from my car . I found it on the Internet What do you guys think Last edited by gto19; 12-31-2019 at 09:16 PM. |

I believe that trim piece was held on by Phillips screws, not the 1/4 hex heads you have. I can verify that tomorrow. I'll bet your trim piece was removed.

67 ash tray trim
Don’t quote me but I recall the first half of the 67 builds did not have the ash tray trim piece.
Later in the 67 year that trim was added because the 1966 and early 67 the plastic would burn/melt from cigarettes. Here is an 11D PON built car without it. Chris

Mine was built last week of Nov. '66, in Pontiac, and has the trim piece.

I had the same issue. I noticed that my early 67 did not have this trim piece. I eventually found one and tried and tried to get it to fit. I could get it on, but the ash tray would not fit properly with it.
In the end I too decided that perhaps I never had one, and for sure it doesn't fit properly. So I left it off. |

If you have the “first design” bezel without the notch, this small trim won’t work and the ashtray alignment will be off. You can clearly see the notch on both photos below. First pic shows the trim. Second pic just shows the notch without the trim piece. Chris.
